A new one for me recently was this adult Conops quadrifasciatus on a BioBlitz earlier this week. A species of Thick-headed Fly. They are often referred to as 'Bee Grabbers' due to the life cycle of females quite literally grabbing the Bees in an ambush and then laying their eggs on Bumblebees.

A great record for the garden this week. Cypress Carpet Moth (Thera cupressata). Only a 22nd record for Cheshire. First recorded in mainland Britain in 1984 in West Sussex. This is one of the more northern UK records. #lepidoptera #mothsmatter #ukwildlife #gardenwildlife #wildliferecording

An early morning start and visit to RSPB Leighton Moss. A lovely reserve always worth a visit. Rewarded with a family of four Otters from the hide. Amongst usual suspects were Marsh Tit too. Great start to the week!

Fungi finds from RSPB Burton Mere Wetlands on the weekend. Fungi isn't my strongest taxa when it comes to identification. Here's what I think I've recorded: Stereum sp, Jelly Ear, Orange Peel Fungus (Aleuria sp.), Elf Cup Fungus (Sarcoscypha sp.) and Yellow Brain. Happy to be corrected.

A flashback to 2017 when I had the privilege to work with Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF) for a couple of weeks in Uganda. We were surveying Kidepo Valley National Park for their Giraffe population and to collect tissue samples for genetic analysis. #giraffe #conservation #gcf
