Paul Thistoll @pault.bsky.social · 23/09/2026It’s my considered belief that TPU/FSU coordinated with National/ACT to get Rainbow and Derby appointed to the Human Rights Commission. I don’t have any proof though other than the fact the ACT Party Chief of Staff supported Rainbow’s application. But Hager’s insights makes it plausible. 2123

Paul Thistoll @pault.bsky.social · 14/09/2026I often see people just accepting the sunk cost without trying to understand why they got to that situation in the first place. Obviously there are known unknowns and unknown unknowns and unknown knowns etc., and the hindsight bias also comes into play. But repeating the errors is irrational! 000
Paul Thistoll @pault.bsky.social · 14/09/2026Interesting, I was just trying to point out you can get annoyed at the causes of the sunk cost existing including replacing those who had a big part in the sunk cost occurring, if major elements of the chain of events that led to the capital allocation error were at least somewhat foreseeable. 100
Paul Thistoll @pault.bsky.social · 14/09/2026People really misunderstand the sunk-cost fallacy. It’s rational to abandon sunk costs if you won’t get the appropriate payoff if you continue. But it’s also rational to point out the people/processes/thinking that led to the sunk costs and take appropriate action to avoid them happening again. 140

Paul Thistoll @pault.bsky.social · 05/09/2026So what do we do?I am interested to hear opinions. Obviously a Labour/Greens majority coalition would be preferable but that is not the hand we are being dealt in this election.I don’t see Opportunity as being able to be in a NZF/National coalition.Thoughts team?! Paul Thistoll @pault.bsky.social · 05/09/2026This is quite the strategic conundrum because human rights in Aotearoa NZ can’t survive another 3 years of a right-wing government. Our country will become unrecognisable. Paul Thistoll @pault.bsky.social · 05/09/2026The worst situation would be Opportunity only getting 4.9%. I understand there is a risk they could go with National in coalition negotiations but Luxon has ruled them out. But Opportunity say they will open negotiations with the party that receives the most party votes! 2/4 210
Paul Thistoll @pault.bsky.social · 05/09/2026At the risk of opening up a Pandora’s box of discourse - it seems that the Opportunity Party is key to a centre-left victory, of course depending on future poll results leading up to the election. If the party is polling around 5% then should we consider tactically giving them our party vote? 1/4 530
