notes.pault.ag/why-write/ while not my usual programming fare, this has been in the back of my head for a while. I have finally put some words down after re-reading some 1940s era philosophical writing I couldn't let go of. please enjoy with post with the love and intent I have imparted on it.

Alas, no, but people have been saying for years that @pault.ag and I need to release a collaboration called "hashtag"

After 4 (long) years, I can finally make good on my promises to revisit building a DIY Layer 1 & 2 with my SDRs. I've been calling it 'pigeon' (using my RF library sparky). I've written down as much as I could and have just hit publish on a now 4-year old draft (now 16 posts) at k3xec.com/pigeon/

I'm going to build a network transport! Again!

Due to life decisions, I use my SDRs over the network with my own protocol. Existing programs don't support it, so it was high time to do what any normal person would do -- convincingly implement librtlsdr .so off my rust sdr codebase (sparky) and make it work. Obviously k3xec.com/sparky-rtlsdr/
gqrx's settings menu showing a list of attached SDRs. Two of which are "RTL-SDR" devices (rtl=0, rtl=1) with obviously bogus product strings, which talk to my rust radio code instead.

I've posed my slides and linked to the video recording from my talk "Paging All Radio Curious Hackers!" at @districtcon.bsky.social Year 1 just now at k3xec.com/paging-all-r... All in all, the session was great - It was truly humbling to see so many folks interested in hearing me talk about radios.

happy to report i'm very much back on my bullshit
gqrx screenshot of the spectrum plot and waterfall plot. the waterfall plot is, hilariously, a recognizable image of the "doge with gun" meme, sitting next to a large looking ham radio receiver captioned "I lied, I don't have netflix" "take off your shoes, we're gonna listen to Russian numbers stations on shortwave radio"

A lovely post. It reminds me a bit of this: tailscale.com/blog/remembe... which was the inspiration for Tailscale.

I've just pushed @debian.bsky.social versions hamm (2.0), bo (1.3), rex (1.2), and buzz (1.1) @docker.com container images to hub.docker.com/r/debian/eol -- they're a little esoteric to successfully use thanks to old kernel expectations, but they do work and represent those old releases accurately!

I wrote up a post about a joke which ended with me building a UEFI binary that would boot into a picture of Kier. Praise Kier! I wouldn't usually post stuff like this, EXCEPT using the UEFI rust crate was awesome. Took me way longer to write the post than write the hack. notes.pault.ag/boot2kier/

I've been frustrated at times with the state of ax25 in linux (not to mention platforms like #OpenBSD), so I've been using patty (thanks kz3rox!) for all my packet code and it's been awesome This post has no point except this is good software and I feel like it should be more widely used kz3rox.us
