Green Party leader Zack Polanski did not handle the pointless and damaging conference motion about Zionism well. But why on earth would his own supporters create such a trap for him? By @sangitamyska.bsky.social www.thenerve.news/p/sangita-my...
Zack Polanski (pictured in green with the Green Party logo) is in a deep political hole. His own party put him there. By Sangita Myska.

hence much of the backlash and problems encountered since the motion's conception. I think more surgical care was needed in the content too, to maximise the motion's positive effect and minimise the flak from certain quarters, but here we are so where do we go from here?

Single state prescription and title aside, I agree with the rest of the motion, but the more careful and surgical content of the motion's text lands after the sledgehammer of the title has hit. We know many people don't read the small print and we know many people will do all sorts with the title...

It's racism, apartheid, ethno-supremacy, ethnic cleansing, genocide, a world of pain for Palestinian people and a lot of pain for Jewish people the world over too. 🙏🏻

I disagreed with the Green Party's 'Zionism is Racism' motion in the UK, partly because I see too much in the full cultural, global and historic spectrum of Zionism to label it all as racism, but Jewish people have to acknowledge the Zionist racism that flows from Israel into all of Palestine... 1

That's fair and true to say from the perspective of the Palestinian experience. There's more to it from the full global spectrum of the Jewish experience. Both are true at the same time.

Even if you think that Israel's destruction of Gaza has not yet met the legal threshold of genocide you should recognise that Israel's government and a large share of the electorate are set on the physical destruction and removal of Palestinian people between the River and the Sea.

I think, in the diasporic and non-statist aspects of Zionism, it's maybe not about prioritising safety over the safety of others. It's just about finding and maintaining safety after not having it for so long.

That's not what he's saying. He's a self-described anti-Zionist himself. He's just trying to show the full spectrum of the word's meaning to the whole of the Jewish religion, which is about much more than the Israeli brand of Zionism.

We have to call Israel out for its racism, apartheid and genocide. Israel's conduct in Palestine is all of those things and they do stem from its Political Zionism. Cultural Zionism did not call for a Jewish state in Palestine and other non-statist strains of Zionism grew from it... 1

Yet not all Zionism asks for a nation state. Some perspectives are 'non-statist' and for others with a loose attachment to Israel, Zionism is about so much more. In the context of Israel and Palestine, it is absolutely the zenith of racist settler colonialism. In the context of support for Israel...

I've done a little research and it looks like you'll need to travel to North Wales or the Lake District to find a place where you can try them on. You could plump for a size online (hand width can come out a little narrow) or find other mittens made for winter mountains in the Bristol stores.
