My reply to "medicare@subscriptions.medicare.gov". Thank you for the opportunity to provide feedback about this one-time $90 payment. My feedback is that I am sending your bribe directly to ActBlue to help defeat this pathetic administration who thinks a bribe will influence my vote in November.

Thank you for the book recommendation. I've heard good things about about American Rambler but have not read it yet. I'll fix that.

Another life tragically taken. The incident intersection is a tangle of roads. I know nothing of the circumstances yet was wondering to myself if the presence of the nearby, but currently in-progress Eagle Creek Trail Phase 2C would have made any difference to this horrible outcome? See ALT.
An Indy DPW generated map of the Eagle Creek Trail (purple) with the intersection where a fatality occurred on 10/5/26 circled by me in red.

The power of books. This quote post comes three weeks late but, if you would, take a moment and read the entirety of Mike Habeck’s thread. Quite the tribute - and a quite the story of the path not taken.

Took advantage of the perfect weather to bike from #Indy out west to North Salem. It was exciting to see all the construction progress on the newest section of the B&O trail. Stopped for a tasty lunch at Perillo’s Pizzeria before returning. 45 miles RT.
Still closed but this is B&O trail’s newest section’s western end at N CR 50 W in Hendricks county. I biked to the library to pick up “Country People” by Daniel Mason. I’m very excited to read this, his latest book, which I’d had on hold for 3 months. On my return ride, I picked up a lot of trash from the W 56th St causeway that crosses #Indy’s Eagle Creek reservoir. 9/24/26.
Photo of the book Vountry People by Daniel Madon. A wooden deck and plants in the background. A black bike and a large heavy white bag full of roadside litter. The bag sits on a paved parking area beside a black trash can. A mowed lawn and uncut native grasses fill the background.

I just got my on hold copy today. My library online account gives me space to add notes. I had typed this: “Saw a review of this book on 6/30/26 in NYTimes and placed on hold. I loved his books North Woods and The Piano Tuner. “ It took almost 3 months for it to arrive.

Wonderful cool morning for a bike ride out to the west end of the B&O trailhead. Kudos to the fantastic Brownsburg Parks Dept: today they not only had a small tractor blowing leaves off the trail but they had a three person crew scrubbing a bunch of vile, spray-painted graffiti off the pavement.

Person driving at freeway speeds on I-90 Trail raises serious trail security concerns
Erik Josberger was on a light rail train crossing I-90 when he saw someone driving a white sedan in the biking and walking path going even faster than the train. As someone who has been biking in the area for a long time, it was a terrifying thing to see. He took out his phone and started recording, then called the police. Josberger posted two short video clips to the Seattle Cyclists Discord a few hours after it happened September 10, and then they were quickly posted across social media. The first clips show the driver going faster than the train and the traffic in the general lanes.

I looked today. The traffic-facing side of barriers had streaks from what looked like hard, glancing blows by the tires of a large truck moving at high speed. Probably not intentional, but, as you suggested, probably involved a man, a beer and a truck. Barriers are reset & ready for another crash.

Once again the protective cement barriers where #Indy’s Eagle Creek Trail crosses the Eagle Creek reservoir along W 56th street causeway have been crashed into and pushed into the trail. Likely happened sometime over the weekend of 9/12/26. Called in as Work Order 26-00133845.

#BiketheDrive in Chicago was a blast this morning. Perfect weather for a bike ride.
A large group of cyclists in front of Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry rest stop. City trucks blockade the north end of Lake Shore Drive. View of south bank of the Chicago River from the bridge. The ride starts and ends in Butler park along Chicago’s lake shore. A gorgeous view of the sky line looking NW.

The northward expansion of the Ronald Reagan continues at a glacial pace toward Boone county Indiana. I wonder if the funding for the MUP that, so far, has been built alongside all new sections of highway will now dry up? (1/2) see ALT.
A photo of a woman standing on a new section of highway without traffic in Nov 2025. Two bicycles are beside her. The photo was taken on the Ronald Reagan Expressway just north of 56th street near Brownsburg IN a few weeks before the highway opened to traffic. The red arrow shows the location of the paved multi-use path that runs along the expressway.
