They tried this in Australia and it led to a wave of homelessness because people couldn't pay rent or utilities. Landlords also complained about missing out on rent money. The policy was scrapped. It won't work here either and everyone knows it. It will only create hardship. #nzpol

NZ has one of the highest rates of workplace deaths in the OECD, as a previous SME owner I think this is a mistake and puts lives at risk. We paid for H&S courses for staff & their input into H&S of the workrooms was crucial. In my experience employers underestimate risk esp if home based. #nzpol

The excess mortality chart covering the period January 2029-December 2023. The US hits 4000 extra deaths per million, Sweden hits 2000/million and at the bottom New Zealand sits on zero after spending much of the time in negative territory.

Instead of losing thousands to COVID we did so well fewer people died than would typically die in a normal year.
