When NYCFC II made their deep Open Cup run a few years back, there was a lot of after the whistle action. My working theory was that their opponents REALLY hated losing to a bunch of kids. Seems to be the case on the international stage too

If the hammer comes down Cavan Sullivan can always simply not go to Manchester City. He is not contracted to them. He and Philadelphia may have preemptively agreed to terms but I don’t know that it would be enforceable.

Contextually, Feli Rauch grabbed Dudley’s jersey towards the small of her back and may have also gotten some hair with it. She got a foul for the jersey pull but that was it. Jordynn Dudley has long hair as do many other players. I don’t think the commentary was particularly unfair towards her.

Two years ago, Enzo Dovlo was working the counter at a Burger King in France. Now he's training next to Miguel Almirón and starting at wing back for Atlanta United 2. @madisoncrews7.bsky.social caught up with him ahead of Sunday's Decision Day trip to Orlando.

Former NYCFC academy GK Alex Yagudayev is mentioned in this article; currently, he’s allowed 2 goals in 33 shots on target this season for an unreal 94% save rate. He missed Villanova’s last game and they gave up 3 goals on 9 shots on target.

The 'excused' status for a player on the availability report strikes again. Paul is a rookie forward out of Alabama. Didn't get much run in KC so far, but what minutes she got were at the 9, so more depth there. Had Reilyn Turner as a comp on @paulharvey.theoutfield.nyc's NCAA scouting dashboard.

I felt like the initial coverage of the proposed playoff change in MLS was negative, but mostly out of confusion. The more I sat with the proposal (which was admittedly difficult to parse) the more I saw the vision and believed it could be exactly what we want the playoffs to be.

The real juice here, for me, is the proliferation of Veo etc cameras at all levels of soccer. You're not getting anything out of a Man City game that hasn't been done 1000 times, but if you can get "good enough" data on 10s of thousands of youth players all at once... game changer for recruitment.

If I ran a club I would simply hire then fire Caleb Porter and Bradley Carnell in quick succession. The resulting boost would turn any team from bottom feeder to elite in less than a month.

The goal here for MLS is to shift *elimination* to the playoffs but keep the *rewards* for regular season performance, while also creating home playoff games for as many teams as possible. As confusing as this playoff setup is on paper the more I understand it the more I think it accomplishes that.

Paul Harvey @paulharvey.theoutfield.nyc · 20/08/2026
Ok, this is how the new MLS playoff structure works. And honestly, having charted it out.. I don't hate it. It gives a lot of advantages to higher seeded teams but still gives the lower seeded teams a fighting chance.

Comparing 16/17 year olds across leagues and decades is a bit of a fool's errand. At the same time, the best youth MLS prospect ever is Alphonso Davies. From a production perspective, Sullivan is making the leap a full year ahead of him. It's uncharted territory.
