At night I write poetry and prose, write songs and paint. I also like to play the guitar, badly, which makes the members of my band, The Fractal Cats, laugh. My blog is at www.paulglover.uk. My academic posts are at @profpaulglover.bsky.social

Two years ago I woke in the middle of the night having just finished reading William Blake as my bedtime reading (odd bloke eh!?). I wrote the following on my bed-side pad: "I saw the world in a grain of sand, then realised I am very short-sighted." Then, I turned over, knocked the pad under the bed, and fell asleep.

Today's Post concerns new aphorisms I have been playing with for a while. The exception is Number 3 on the list which is from someone else (anon). I hope you like them. If so please (1) share the post and (2) send me your own aphorisms, new or pre-loved! paulglover.uk/2026/09/30/p...

What a well-structured painting. Look at the lines from the wool- winder pointing to the husband and his bent knees and her sighting downwards and not at him. Whatever is being said, the daughter is clearly interested and ot attending her work.

This short video was taken at 0715 this morning from a layby on the A64 near York. What beauty hidden in plain sight from the speeding drivers! The soundtrack is a reminder in this visual poem, but you can always turn it off, just to contemplate the scene. paulglover.uk/2024/04/13/p...

Moths seen last wee in Malton. A beautiful Blood-veined moth and a common box moth. The latter destroys box trees/bushes, which IMO is good because no tree or bush should ever be box- shaped.

I have a bottle on my window sill. An ecologist congratulated me for having a living stream ecosystem. Sad to inform him it is a mixture of angelika, fennel, coriander, aniseed seeds, cloves, caster sugar an vodka! In 2 months it will be amazing angelika liquor - now it looks like ditchwater.
