I’m an anxious-avoidant writer (paralytically terrified of starting), I justify procrastination as “percolating” etc. And yet! whenever I force myself to actually sit down and barf shit out, the thoughts that emerge are totally fresh, previously unknown to my conscious mind, and often pretty good!

that's right, Bruce Campbell www.mensjournal.com/entertainmen...
When asked how it’s been for him to see the series transform since its indie beginnings way back in 1981 with director Sam Raimi, Campbell revealed his one issue with the recent installments.

“I’d like more humor back in. The three features have been mostly humorless, and I personally have a problem with that,” he said, echoing a sentiment shared among some of the franchise’s fans. “There’s no point for these to get too grim. You can be scary without being grim.”

“A little more humor wouldn’t kill you,” he added. “And one hero that you really can root for. Ash is an idiot, but you want him to survive.”

“Modern filmmakers love to color their movies like a David Fincher movie, like a hospital room, you know?” Campbell continued. “Gray-green, like a garage. Garage lighting. And so, okay, it’s a choice. It’s not mine. I think even a horror movie can look pretty. Why not throw them off? Make it all look pretty and wonderful, and then let them have it.”

Having read through the the Pope's encyclical,¹ I'm struck by how much it complements Ted Chiang's observation that most people's fears about AI are really fears about capitalism. ¹ See thread above.

it’s so funny that i really genuinely believed writing would get easier over time. that’s hilarious. it’s not even a mean lie somebody told me, it’s just a fake thing i came up with.

I think the reason AI propagandists are so flustered by the fact that no real writer wants to use their idiotic tools is that they themselves don't enjoy writing. They see it as a boring arduous chore to be avoided, while real writers actually enjoy writing and actually care about the quality of it.

Reposting this because I revamped my site and the link changed. Added the script for Wake Up Dead Man to my site. This is the final shooting script, it has stuff that was cut and moved around, which I think is more interesting than a conformed cleaned up version. Enjoy! rian-johnson.com/scripts

A friend went round to his neighbours’ for Eid last night and apparently the wife slightly panicked about hosting white people because she disappeared for a couple of minutes and came back with half a pint of whisky for him. This, to me, is multiculturalism

Well, okay, some rules. But a lot of the "rules" they teach young writers seem designed to leach the personality from their scripts. Especially now, with AI looming, it's a good time to let a little quirkiness through.
