There's some of that -- more and different kinds of people have CN views than we assume (not just Whites!). The point of this article is that there are a variety of ways to capture the worldview. We got tired of reviewers being SUPER CRABBY about the measures on the basis of what struck us as feels.

We used 10 datasets, some public some our own, and found consistent factor structure that validated the Whitehead and Perry measure; we also asked 11 items and tested 330 combinations of a CN index and found the same factor structure and consistent predictions of eg the Trump vote 2/3

Christian nationalism is seemingly everywhere, but there have been surprisingly few attempts to assess how it is measured; the few articles have sowed doubts (which is fine, of course). We took on this question with much more data than has been used to this point and found consistent results. 1/3

The surprise is who was more likely to adopt the CN identity given their worldview -- those paying more attention, e.g., the educated -- who were more likely to identify. A CN id is not a substitute for meaningful views, but a concentrator of them. (research w @brooklynwalker.bsky.social )
