I did the math on their own numbers and it showed people would have to be working 1200-1700 hours of OT every year. That’s a whole second job!

Me: oh wow, this shop has everything my heart desires!

Spooky shopkeeper: yes, I will warn you... every item comes with a price.

Me: yes, I know how shops work

Spooky Shopkeeper: The price may be more than you expect to pay.

Me: Yes, I know how US taxes work, too.

Shopkeeper, increasingly exasperated: I'm trying to tell you that I'm evil and offering these wares with no regard for the harm they will do!

Me, also increasingly exasperated: I know what capitalism is too goddammit

Anyone doing the math on how many hours of OT it takes to pull in $350K a year will quickly realize that the ferry system is terribly overworking these engineers. At $157K/year, your hourly rate is about 75 bucks an hour. At time-and-a-half, to then bring in another 193K takes 1700 hours OT.

A customer just tried to use an employee discount code that ChatGPT gave her. I work at a high-end clothing store and clocked in to my manager telling me about the most unhinged interaction from yesterday. A woman walked in asking if she could use a 40% off code she got online. We don't have any sales running, so my manager looks at the screen and realizes ChatGPT straight up handed this woman a real employee's internal ID number.

NEW: According to a bombshell report in the New York Times, Anthropic co-founder Chris Olah threatened to walk out of Pope Leo XIV's Al encyclical launch in May because the pope rejected the idea that machines can be conscious.
Olah's team then privately lobbied the pope's advisers "to take the possibility of model consciousness seriously." Pope Leo XIV held firm.
For months, Anthropic has wined and dined theologians and religious scholars under nondisclosure agreements, hoping they would bless the idea that Claude has moral standing.

Andrew Thomas has really really really come into his own as a keeper this season. A little more continued improvement in his distribution and he should be in the GKOTY discussion (but probably won’t be just like Stef got screwed because of the anti-Seattle bias)

And worth noting is that this law was changed in July 2026, but that change doesn’t apply to MLS because they don’t change the rules in midseason. It’ll apply for them in the next new season.

That goal, folks, is why referees don’t blow the whistle instantly when there’s a foul. A perfect application of advantage. Unfortunately the ref then screwed up by failing to YC the guy. That’s plainly a DOGSO foul by the last defender in the area, and it’s a good so not a play on the ball.

It was. I couldn’t figure it out either so I went back and rewatched it. CR cuts it back to Arriola, who shoots it. KC lunges to block and it goes right to CR… who was in an offside position at the moment Arriola shot. A block of a ball going into the goal is a save and doesn’t “reset” offside. ☹️

There is a moment at the very very end of Abdul El-Sayed's podcast with Ezra Klein (book recommendation section) where he talks about the idea of "speaking truth to pain" and this will be staying with me for an extremely long time. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/25/o...
But there’s also something about truth to pain. We talk a lot about truth to power, but I think it’s actually a lot harder to speak truth to pain. I say that as someone who went to medical school, realizing that in a lot of our politics right now, we’ve got to get a lot better at speaking truth to pain if we’re going to get through some of these challenges that we have.

What does “truth to pain” mean?

It’s one thing to look power in the eye and say: You’re wrong about this. But there’s a way in which pain is very difficult to reason with. Because when somebody is in their pain, they’re in their trauma. They see that pain, and they may not see what’s causing it.

I remember just very explicitly being in a trauma ward with a gunshot wound patient and watching this big guy with his hand on his gunshot wound. All the folks are trying to pull his hand off his pain, that point of his gunshot wound, this clear vulnerability.

And this emergency room doctor had the presence of mind to be like: Everyone, stop. And she looks him in the eyes, and she’s like: I get that really hurts, and I’m so sorry that you’re here. You don’t want to be here. We don’t want you to be here. But if you don’t let us fix this, you could die. So I’m going to take your hand, and I’m going to move it off, OK? Because I need to get there so that you can live.

She was speaking truth to pain. He understands he’s at the hospital, he needs care, but he also doesn’t want anybody to touch the wound. Which is a natural thing. And I think it is a really great metaphor for how we think about a lot of these challenges we talked about today.

Not to mention that the withdrawal from Afghanistan that Trump mentioned was set up by… Trump. So the actual scorecard: 1-Afghanistan withdrawal went bad right at the end, set up by Trump 2-Iraq withdrawal, went pretty well, set up by Biden 3-Iran quagmire, set up by Trump

You can tell how slanted any opinion piece on Gaza/Israel is going to be when they only say how many Israelis died (1,200) without being fair and mentioning how many Gazans have died (at least 70,000) Putting those numbers together makes it pretty clear who the genocidal guys are.
