Hey, bird lovers - if you've been worried about bald eagles, fear less; we see 'em all the time around here, and golden eagles too now and then. The other day we even saw a bald eagle getting mobbed by our holler's crows, and a second bald eagle came to join the fracas.

If you dated a woman and it didn't go great, you're not yet qualified to say, "I tried dating women. It's not for me." If you tried therapy with one therapist from one style of therapy and it didn't help, you're not yet qualified to say, "I tried therapy. It's not for me."

It's one of those mornings in #Appalachia when you grab your sunglasses 'cuz the sky's cloudless...then you head out and everything down in town is socked in fogbound 'cuz around here we wake up with our heads not just literally in the clouds but quite often up above them.

How much of what I think of as my identity is just these stories and songs and crap I carry around in my skull waiting for the day when someone outside my skull might actually give a fuck about them? What would it be like to just let them go?

Yes, the Mad King is a disaster. But for this morning I choose to live in the world where young Nell made a beautiful album of Nick Cave covers with her friends the Flaming Lips and old Elizabeth Cotten made guitar history with her friends the Seegers. THESE MACHINES KILL FASCISM.

Corporations spend more than $1.5 billion a year on union-busting. That’s $1.5 billion they could have spent on higher wages, better benefits, and improving workplace safety. Remember: if they weren’t so scared of worker power, they wouldn’t fight so hard against unions.

Amazon, awful @doctorow.pluralistic.net pluralistic.net/2026/09/04/c...
Amazon's payola isn't about radio play – it's about search. When you search Amazon, the top results do not represent Amazon's best guess about what product will best match your query: rather, Amazon auctions off those top results to its platform sellers. Amazon's search results reflect who paid the biggest bribe, not who has the best product.

Rome wasn't overthrown in a day. Oligarchies are stubborn, and by the time they've established and entrenched themselves, they have resources, power blocs and even mercenaries they can deploy to repel would-be dethroners.
A woodcut engraving of a courtroom scene in which the divorcee has thrown herself into the arms of one of the lawyers and they are about to kiss. The image has been altered: the heads of the judge, the court clerk and both lawyers have been replaced by green Android 'droid' mascots in judicial powdered wigs. The judge's bench sports a pixelated, 1998-era 'I'm feeling lucky' Google button.

From: A practical utopians guide to the coming collapse davidgraeber.org/articles/a-p...
"Neoliberalism has always been wracked by a central paradox.
It declares that economic imperatives are to take priority over all others. Politics itself is just a matter of creating the conditions for growing the economy by allowing the magic of the marketplace to do its work.

All other hopes and dreams—of equality, of security—are to be sacrificed for the primary goal of economic productivity. But global economic performance over the last few decades has been decidedly mediocre.

With one or two spectacular exceptions (notably China, which significantly ignored most neoliberal prescriptions), growth rates have been far below what they were in the days of the old-fashioned, state-directed, welfare-state-oriented capitalism of the 50s, 60s & even 70s."

Hurray, my stupid cheap Harley Benton banjo came today! I'm trying to relearn all I used to know about those goofy tunings Ry Cooder taught Keith Richards, so "Honky Tonk Women" was one of the first songs I figured out on banjo, followed of course by "Rainbow Connection." +50 hillbilly points!

The reason we don't really incarcerate the rich is that the real continuum of society isn't "rich---poor," it's more like "prison/enslavement---noncarceral poverty---non-carceral nonpoverty under constant threat of poverty and enslavement/prison." The rich live outside this continuum.
