Weather Report: a fanning breeze. An absence of forecast small rain. The Big Hill (after an absence of walking) as an old, old friend, in bleach blonde tresses. Fields we’ve never seen cut for hay before. The winds of [climate] change, felt in the countryside first. Emotional Weather: thoughtful
The highest chalk hill, the highest hill in Southern/ SE England - rounded downland in shades of gold and green. A steep, freshly shorn hayfield on the downland, above a freshly harvested corn field of stubble. Tall mixed trees dividing them. View of golden fields dissected by thick green hedges & trees, from the top of the hill, with a foreground of crisped wild seedheads. The double gallows pole or gibbet, on top of a 6,000 yr old long barrow on the downs. Blue sky, scudding cloud, golden fields and green woods below.

Plunge-diving gannet composite. Flamborough Head, East Riding of Yorkshire, yesterday morning. #birds #ukbirds #wildlife #seabirds
A white bird with black wingtips dives into the sea in a series of images composited into a single one. At the start of the dive the bird's wings are outstretched but as it dives they become more folded back. In the background is a cliff showing white chalk at the base and the sea below.

Sunday evening at Bempton. A howling, cold Northerly was making it hard for the puffins to land so they were circling and making repeated attempts to get on the cliffs... making it easier to photograph them. #birds #ukbirds #ukwildlife #wildlife

This is so outrageous. The Government wants to reclassify Coastguard Rescue Officers as "volunteers" so they can get out of paying them an hourly wage when they go out to save lives. Join me and sign the petition to demand the Government scrap plans to strip rescue heroes of their pay: 38d.gs/sh54

Young tawny owls clamber about in the trees before they can fly. This makes their parents nervous, so they will dive-bomb anything nearby that might be a threat. This pine marten got the treatment at our #Kinclaven Bluebell Wood, but our Loch Arkaig ospreys have also been on the receiving end.

Saving your money on peanuts and suet, and instead planting up your garden for wildlife is also an option. After all, how much time does anyone actually spend *looking* at their birdfeeders? Donate those savings to groups/charities doing habitat creation instead, for real conservation benefits.
