I tried something new, and it is available now: Michael Fischer and I contributed a chapter on using wealth inequality to teach high school math. I believe we should discuss inequality more often, but breaking down research to fundamentals was hard. link.springer.com/book/10.1007...

WIFO Prognose Juni 2026: Das stärkere Wachstum aus 2025 wird von den negativen Folgen des Iran-Krieg ausgeglichen. Heuer bleibt ein reales Wachstum von nur +0,9 % (2027: +1,1 %). Getragen wird es vor allem von Investitionen und Exporten. 🧵

1/2 Als Makroökonom sind mir die aktuellen BIP-Prognosen usw. geläufig (BIP 2025: +0,6%, 2026: 0,5-0,9% 2027: 0,8-1,3%). In der Landwirtschaft scheint die Welt noch eine andere (gewesen) zu sein. 2025 stieg die Nettowertschöpfung (also abzüglich Abschreibungen, zuzüglich Subventionen) um 20%!

Turbulenz ist ein Leihbegriff aus der Strömungsdynamik. Er meint chaotische Interaktionen, die aber statistisch analysiert werden können, eine innere Dynamik entwickeln um die sich alles dreht. Für Shaikh ist diese innere Dynamik die Jagd nach höheren Profiten, die immer wieder zur Krise führt.

Als Alternative zum perfekten Wettbewerb (der keine Wettbewerbsaktivitäten kennt), oder imperfektem Wettbewerb und Monopolkapitalismus (die ihn weg-annehmen) leitet Shaikh den "realen Wettbewerb" von Marx und aus der BWL-Literatur ab. Statt zum Equilibrium führt das zu turbulenten Dynamiken.

3 Themen ziehen sich durch Shaikhs Arbeiten: Profite, Wettbewerb und Krisen. Wenn Profite der Treibstoff des Kapitalismus sind, ist der Wettbewerb der Motoraufbau, der kleine Explosionen zur Vorwärtsbewegung macht. Wer dessen Sollbruchstellen kennt, versteht warum das Auto regelmäßig liegen bleibt.

Respektvoll wäre es auch, die Gründe für unfreiwillige Teilzeit anzugehen: unzureichende Kinderbetreuungsangebote in großen Teilen von Österreich, die ungerechte Aufteilung der unbezahlten Arbeit zwischen Männern und Frauen, immer weitere Arbeitsverdichtung und zersplitterte Dienstzeiten.

Dazu kommen Arbeitnehmer:innen, die altersgerechte Arbeitsplätze und Möglichkeiten zur innerbetrieblichen Umorientierung verdienen. Das muss nicht auf ältere Arbeitende beschränkt bleiben: Eine gesunde (kürzere) Vollzeit und Arbeiten ohne Ausbrennen sind für die Erwerbsbeteiligung wichtig.

Ein deutliches Zeichen von Respekt wäre es auch, auf die vielen Teilzeitkräfte zu hören, die sagen, dass sie gerne mehr Stunden arbeiten möchten. Laut WIFO wünschen sich 139.000 Arbeitende ein Aufstocken von 5 Stunden oder mehr, treffen aber auf kein Entgegenkommen der Arbeitgeber:innen.

Respektvoll wäre es, endlich die Benachteiligungen für Teilzeitbeschäftigte abzuschaffen: Niedrigere Gehälter und niedrigere Pensionsansprüche, Mehrstunden bei Teilzeit bekommen nur den halben Zuschlag von Überstunden bei Vollzeit.

In Systemerhalter:innen-Branchen wie der Pflege oder dem Handel arbeiten vor allem Frauen in Teilzeit. Unter oft zu harten Bedingungen kümmern sie sich um die Gesundheit und Versorgung der Bevölkerung. Dafür verdienen sie Respekt und Löhne, die für ein gutes Leben reichen.

Studien und Zahlen der Statistik Austria zeigen: Nicht „fehlender Wille“, sondern belastende Arbeitsbedingungen und Care-Arbeits-Verpflichtungen sind oft der Grund, weniger als 35 Wochenstunden zu arbeiten. Auch die Zahl der tatsächlichen Stellenangebote und die angebotenen Löhne sind wichtig.
