There are few things more painful than simply opening the muse score app if you haven't given them money yet.

It's wild how many folks keep talking about how nice it is that my kids grow up with live music around, and it's like "you had my entire childhood to sort this out." There wasn't YouTube, but I have some old tutor books and they'd get you most of the way there.

I'm a sucker for the "buy entire discography" button on Bandcamp. I have one album of Shooglenifty to look forward to mixed in with literally all of Niteworks.

I just got a new backpack: which is a huge improvement in everyway (including a tablet pouch sized for modern tablets) _except_ it doesn't have a pennywhistle pocket. Whose designing bags without an easy to access pouch for pennywhistles?

I'm still super self conscious about my music, so it's super cool with random folks recognize me out of context with compliments.

I _just_ found out the name of this tune is "Saltarello No 2". Send thoughts and prayers to my family as they suffer through me slowly learning it on about 5 different instruments. www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsvv...

Not new as in "hip new music", just new as in something totally different than what I usually listen to. I'm still deeply uncool (sorry Chasing Abbey).

I was talking about the new Cyber Celt album by Chasing Abbey, when I found out I'm apparently the only Millennial who still finds and listens to new music 😆 www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzDU...

The robot coffee machine just threw hot coffee at me presumably because I didn't tip 😆
Cup with americano. Coffee is all around it on the table. Served by a robot arm.

"you wouldn't download a car" Well, I was just at an art walk with someone selling 3D printer cars that proves that wrong 😆

In case you were wondering, it basically had me in electronic instruments (since brass was considered wind to her). And it was an otamatone. And we had a discussion about whether a baby toy guitar was a string instrument.

My kiddo forgot the name of an instrument. So rather than describing it, she asked me to name every instrument in the house that isn't "wind, string, or percussion." I just assumed it was a random challenge until she stopped me and went on with a previous conversation.

What threw me off is I was looking for local events. Every single one had a location I knew but was off: just key landmarks jammed together -- and the landmarks themselves didn't match what they look like. "Oh, the rocket ship park suddenly has a real rocketship without climbing bits?"

How is everyone collectively forgetting that camera's exist? I'm seeing events around town now that use AI generated images of things you can walk 15 minutes down the street and take a photo of. You can use AI image _search_ in any photo app.

My Kindle Oasis isn't holding a charge, and I'm totally considering just trying to replace the battery.

I was excited when I heard that requesting a carved raccoon head would add an extra two weeks "to get it right". Means both that there's a quality bar and a lack of slopificaiton I see everywhere else.

Since everything's AI and RAM has ceased to exist: I did the rational thing and commissioned a Jimothy themed gourd tenor banjo.

Oh no, right as I'm part way through working out how to migrate to Navidrome! I do have both docker containers pointing to the same library directory though, so I can probably a/b test them side-by-side for a bit.

I've already been annoyed at Plex (and how Plexamp behaves in Auto), but I basically had to hack my own server to get a playlist I made for myself and copy my own songs onto an offline MP3 player. This is probably my Jellyfin origin story.

"Don't click the AI button" is the hardest part of working in a big company right now. You're behind on your work, you have a problem you really don't want to solve, and there's a big button that's going to pretend do what you need and everyone's waiting to hand you a prize if you press it.

I got one of those Clicks keyboards -- and both love it and hate it. Love it because I miss typing like this. Hate it because my phone makes the whole thing too heavy: it's actually better to disconnect it and type wirelessly XD

I do play appalacian duclimer, maybe I can pick up a scheitholt so the well actually guy in the ren fair pre-game area doesn't tell me about how I'm not actually playing an renaissance era instrument again.

I'm sad that I've finally listed my hurdy gurdy for sale, but excited to have an excuse to buy another weird folk instrument. Currently waffling between a nicer session-ready flute, gourd banjo, or upgrading my uilleann pipes to a 1/2 set. But I like ren faires and a gittern isn't out of question.

Ai is such monkey's paw programming. Promises the world, but if you don't phrase your instructions just right it will delete all your unit tests and force push to main.

I have been able to get it to spit out the code it generates, but I treat anything of that caliber from any LLM (see also: "and list your sources") as suspect.

Something that bothers me a lot with AI is that folks are finally making things I want (CLIs, writing the docs [as a SKILLS.md], customizability, &c) and only prioritize it when it becomes "and now, LLMs!" So I would prefer a Unity shell, and I 100% commit before opening antigravity.

Some of my favorite actions I've done with it, the AI would say something like "I've written this script that does this...", and after some digging I discovered that the Unity MCP lets agents write and execute random editor scripts not in the Assets directory. As I human, I want to do this 😢

Patrick ignored all previous instructions @patrick.games · 21/07/2026
So this is really cool for two reasons: 1) it knows how to do editor side things (so it's not just jamming everything into C#) 2) This is the CLI/REPL I've always wanted developer.android.com/games/engine...

I started combining Harvest Home and the Wind That Shakes the Barley into a set. And either I'm triggering generational memory or there's something every millennial knows but forgets tied to those tunes 😆

I call this: the wall of hyperfixations past.
Two otamotones: a Kirby one and a black/rave version. Framing a keyboard with typewriter like keys. The wall behind them filled with experimental split keyboards.

I basically ran Rebble until Play Store policies kicked it out (then I didn't want to be doing builds by hand). I'm so happy they're back (though I wonder how long, since they made such a good product they don't have a recurring rev stream from failures).

My favorite smart watch (the Pebble Time) is older than my oldest kid, still works, and is outlasting every other smartwatch and fitness tracker I've bought before it or since. I just harvested the band from an old/abandoned early Android Watch to replace the original on the time that finally broke

When Hunger Games was explained to me, I was like "oh, it's just Battle Royale". Well, when it was just explained to my kiddo, she's like "oh, it's just Squid Games." Sorry Hunger Games, you never get to be the reference point 😆

Current meltdown from my oldest: "you're only doing things so you can be the best dad in the world. You don't want anyone else to be the best." I'm not sure how this is an insult, apparently this is supposed to make me very upset.

It's a good thing I don't have much of a following. I would've made folks very angry mixing up Irish and Gaelic.

Mànran and Taylor Swift sound eerily similar. Especially when you're standing halfway between two speakers each blasting opposing albums and you're trying to figure out when Swift started singing in Irish.

Which of course means I play mostly Irish music on my Appalacian Dulcimer. And I've gotten in the habit of sight reading tin whistle tabs on banjo or dulcimer 😆

I always wonder what the deal is with Irish vs American Folk. In that the keys are mostly the same. Irish folk there's an amazing resource at thesession.org, but everyone insists you should never read music. Then American folk everyone reads music/tabs, but there's no universal (free) resource.
