I don’t know who needs to hear this but it’s okay to have a special interest or hobby that doesn’t have a bigger purpose than making you happy. If it does not make you happy it’s ok to stop. It’s all learning even learning you didn’t actually want to do that thing in the first place.

The idea that reading “should be an escape” is profoundly disrespectful to actual teenagers. Reading can be about escape. Or not. Teenagers are no different from adults in this regard. For every young readers who craves escapism, there’s another who craves relevance.

Second kid is an 11th grader and both have taken significant # of APs (oldest 9 youngest has taken 7) and I’ve been saying since oldests first AP that they’re terrible, in no way reflect college work load, college teaching techniques, or college grading and the test scoring itself?😬

On this giving Tuesday I remember Suzanne, the neighbor I had that won powerball. She never quit her job as the receptionist at a construction firm. She paid all her bills, set money aside for retirement and her kids and then just started giving it away. Scholarships. Paying peoples medical bills.
