Fantastic, troubling, moving article. Thanks for linking to it. It really made me think. I went to a brand new high school in the DC suburbs of Maryland in the 70s. It was only decades later that I realized we had maybe 10 black kids in each class — bussed in so we’d not be exclusively white.

And… followed back! Sookie was picked up in Southern Pines, NC—though I’m not sure that’s where she originated. That was the address of the vet who first examined her. We get a lot of pups that come up from the south. She was a pandemic-era rescue. Brought her home in October of 2020.

Here in Connecticut most beaches won’t let dogs on during the summer months – I guess too many people don’t clean up after their dogs. We once took her to a local lake. She didn’t take to the water at all. But she loves the woods and the field behind our house.
