A recently published study highlights a concerning trend that has major impacts for aerial insectivores – it's not just phenological mismatch impacting Tree Swallows, it's fewer insects overall. Read our blog to learn how 55-years of monioring data from Long Point, ON has lead to these findings.

55-years of Tree Swallow monitoring sheds light on the consequences of insect decline
For many bird species, including Tree Swallows, it is most beneficial if their migration and breeding activities are timed to coincide with insect emergence— typically adults breed and chicks hatch

Very cool to witness the fledging of this wee little Northern Cardinal while having dinner in the backyard! Didn't think we'd be there for the exact moment. Its instinct kicked in really quick, it made a beeline for the cedar hedge after a few seconds of hanging out in the open.

Incroyable!! Nos amis à l'Obervatoire d'oiseaux de Tadoussac were in the front-row seats for a big show: a reverse migration brought on by unique conditions, featuring 121K Dark-Eyed Juncos and 36K American Robins. Not a typo! Merci de documenter ce phénomène exceptionnel! ebird.org/checklist/S3...

Absolutely love this time of year, when vegetation is still brownish and appears lifeless... Until you hear the great chorus from the birds! Which species can you hear? I had over 20 species just standing in this one spot, including my first 🦊 sparrow of the year!

Ranchers steward habitats that are key to the recovery of many bird species. Happy to meet the Bettles, recipients of the Canadian Cattle Association Environmental Stewardship Award. We chatted about the abundance of swallows and waterfowl on their property, along with other wildlife. Impressive!
