What a hockey game in a full-packed Nokia Arena today. This was the first time Jokerit played against Ilves in 12 years. I was a big fan of the Helsinki team in yearly 90s, now wear an Ilves jersey. These are the two teams that mean most to me.

@sjs Yep good point. Those are different skills. I’ve always liked drawing and writing so that stuff comes kinda naturally Although tbh I’m probably not very good at it 😅 But at least I like doing it!

I know lots of people who can write Swift but who never in the 12 years it has existed wrote a single app of their own. I never understood this. It’s like knowing how to ride a bicycle but never getting a bicycle of your own to ride it.

And here I am for real considering getting a serial mouse to play this 3D shooter on the Series 5

@gnyman I think that’s what’s going on now with AI and it bothers me.

When I see someone saying they built an app “for love of doing it” followed by an in-app purchase or another way of asking for money, I know they’re faking it. You don’t do things out of love and then ask others to pay you for it.

If I had owned a Series 5 as a kid instead of the 3a and had access to some 3D library with this kind of performance I very well might have ended up on a very different path. I was super into 3D graphics in the early 90s and really wanted to do it but just didn’t know how.

I’m now making a little Pixelmator inspired image editor for the Series 5. I have a custom UI library that can draw these panels and some new widgets like sliders. It can handle 8 layers and effects like gaussian blur. It actually runs a bit smoother on the […] [Original post on infosec.exchange]

I know this is Mastodon and people who make apps for Apple platforms and like AI get cut off and at best cursed at. But just wanted to say if you want a map app that shows more roads wherever you are then try out Maptrails. Here’s a comparison

@piidr0 Okay this was the one thing I had to really fix in Proxygen where compact class has a tab bar and regular has sidebar. I had to put those two in sync, so the same item gets selected in both. But that’s as far as I went with it.

@piidr0 How did your app work in an iPad resizable window then earlier? I don’t think this was that new tbh. I did almost nothing.

Pasi Salenius @pasi.infosec.exchange.ap.brid.gy · 10/10/2026
@piidr0 Hmm why don’t you allow landscape mode in your app? Looks like it’d work just fine.

@piidr0 I would wager zero people ever will try to use our apps in tent mode.

Pasi Salenius @pasi.infosec.exchange.ap.brid.gy · 10/10/2026
@piidr0 You can still lock the outer display to portrait only. It’s fine.

Pasi Salenius @pasi.infosec.exchange.ap.brid.gy · 10/10/2026
@piidr0 @khaost So again, you fix issues in the outer display (mostly right / left side safe area), you make sure apps handles transition between small outer and large inner display (which your app should’ve done already for iPad), and you’re golden.

Are people actually trying to support all the poses for iPhone Duo? It’s hard to imagine users actually use the device in some of the poses, and Apple system apps are trying too hard 🙃

@piidr0 Wait, so you’re saying you’ll rewrite your navigation for all iPhones so that it works better on some never-actually-used book mode of Duo that 1% of users will buy? 🫠

@WiteWulf Lots of 2D games would also work great on a Psion. I’m trying to think of games that would make use of a pen input. 3D rendering isn’t even that slow when you really optimize it. To be clear I’m using AI to write these games and had it go as far as write various routines in ARM […]

@WiteWulf Yeah I was wondering earlier that someone must have made this game for a Psion as it fits it so well. Although the pen input of the Series 5 is the critical ingredient!

@WiteWulf It’s pretty decent. I paid attention to make the flying bullets have enough pixels to remain visible on the slow LCD. Also the tanks move slow enough to stay legible. It’s quite fun!

I wasn’t sure about Control Resonant based on the trailers, but holy hell this thing is bonkers. Feels incredible. The controls (heh) feel as tight as ever, like coming back home after playing the first game.

@benedictc It doesn’t really matter what I think. But if we look back to this time, after some years, it may look a lot like the assembly programmers were angry at other people getting into programming by writing Java.

@benedictc @jonmsterling You’re a mathematician 🙂 Am I completely out of whack here? What was it like in those early days when the first electronic calculators became available? Were the mathematicians angry? Or bright-eyed about their future?

@benedictc In many ways yes. Although nothing is a perfect analogy. But it helps to get a certain kind of perspective.

Coming back to the calculator analogy, did all the mathematicians who knew how to do calculations with pen and paper get angry when the electronic calculator was invented. Did they feel like the special skill they had did not have value anymore? Did they think of all the people now able to do […]

A random thought of the day: Even if AI had been invented in a way where no publicly available data had been scraped for free, and it somehow magically ran on any laptop GPU at good speeds, wouldn’t we act the same way as we do now anyway? It would still allow anyone who we wouldn’t consider a […]

Now the real gem. Wii Play’s Tanks game seemed like a good fit for the Psion, with mostly slow paced movement and the aiming translating well to pen input. This game is actually nice. Goes to show what masters Nintendo are at their craft, when […] [Original post on infosec.exchange]

The next attempt a third person shooter improved 3D rendering even more. The ~20 fps this plays at looks perfectly smooth on the Series 5 LCD (which is its biggest bottleneck by today’s standards). This is actually a fun game. I just wish I had a mouse […] [Original post on infosec.exchange]

So I went on. I wanted to see how good 3D rendering I could do on the Series 5. It was fun to see Claude iterate the fps better little by little. Most of the performance-critical code was written in ARM assembly. I started with this 3D space dogfight game […] [Original post on infosec.exchange]

Of course the first thing I had to do was make a coding agent for it. This connects to the Mac over serial link for a headless Claude Code instance (and Internet access). It can generate OPL programs for me, then install and run the compiled OPO executables. It’s super fun!

I began by checking if there were any OS updates available for the Series 5, but of course not. There was really just one OS version that ever existed: the 1.0.1 (145) that’s running also on this one! Let that sink in. They had just one shot to get […] [Original post on infosec.exchange]

The Psion EPOC operating system was a precursor to Nokia’s Symbian. To me it always remained the clearer rendition of the vision. At least UI-wise, everything had a clear logic and was very well thought out. The Series 3a had a more pocket calculator vibe […] [Original post on infosec.exchange]

I got @jbmorley’s Reconnect app working with a USB to RS232 adapter and it was really sentimental seeing these OPL programs I wrote as a 11-year-old run on this Series 5. Had Claude port some of the OPL that had changed between Series 3a and 5. Also had it […] [Original post on infosec.exchange]

Everyone here: “Only vibe code apps for yourself. You don’t ever want to release them to other users. That would be irresponsible.” And then the most followed and boosted posts are as vibe as vibe gets and everyone: “Hells yeah that looks awesome! Where’s the TestFlight?”
