Victory Test Match is still a cultural touchstone also, every West Indies spin duo gets compared to the "two little pals of mine" and that line's always referenced

a lot of the old Negro League and barnstorming teams especially had players referred to by pseudonyms at times. There's players named Thing, Hey, Finger and Dang in the baseball ref database iirc

I once stopped listening to a band I like for over a year because I got a particularly tacky advert for their new album on YouTube

000

Tranz Kafka 🏳️‍⚧️ @partsublimated.bsky.social · 11/09/2026

yes but the amount of times I need to see an advert to annoy me is 1, especially if it's something I don't see the point of advertising it in that medium

I love how Mick had the perfect intro to indycar in st Pete, get pointlessly wrecked by sting ray 4 corners in and sit by the side watching Palou win in a way that's both objectively impressive and a bit boring

there's a reason good quality old Heinleins, etc, can go for massive money second hand

010

Tranz Kafka 🏳️‍⚧️ @partsublimated.bsky.social · 02/09/2026

they're still v common in secondhand genre fiction/anything pulp and anything that was massively popular because they were so cheap, but the poor quality paper and binding mean they don't hold up as well

They used to until last year in the US, but mass-market/a-format paperbacks now cost basically the same to produce as regular trade paperbacks and can't be sold for as much, and overall sales had dropped precipitously since the 90s

probably only the fact that it's easier to pull on the security state lever than on the healthcare lever when you want to hurt trans people in the US
