Some day I'm going to write a gift for people who complain endlessly about plot armor. 200 pages of compelling action and character development. A desperate battle scene with high stakes. Then two thirds of the way down a page it'll just stop midsentence, and then blank for another hundred pages.

There is a moment in the Dungeon Crawler Carl series where they get a magical sock filled with nickels, which is funny unto itself. But I actually had that happen in D&D 3.5. We were at epic level, the DM rolled for random treasure, and we got an artifact-level sap. Just added to it for me. 😆

ultimately I think i don't like any of the Ice and Fire stuff for the same reason I don't like the First Law or Second Apocalypse series: they draw a world where there are no truly good people. And maybe that's 'realistic' or whatever, but it's not something I need to bathe in 24/7.

There is no such thing as a 'gentle singularity' for the record. That's not part of the concept. It's weird hokum invented by techbros who think the singularity is/would be the Rapture. No matter how it plays out, the key aspect of such an event would be the outcome is *no longer up to us*.
