parkstonebirder.bsky.social @parkstonebirder.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Thanks for the replies. Time to go back over previous years' photos and see if I've actually had one before and not noticed! 000
parkstonebirder.bsky.social @parkstonebirder.bsky.social · 20/09/2026I initially put this moth down as a Pale Mottled Willow but some online photos of Clancy's Rustic look quite similar. What's your opinion, @mothiduk.bsky.social or anyone else who has experience with the variability of Clancy's? 420
parkstonebirder.bsky.social @parkstonebirder.bsky.social · 05/09/2026Had to go up country on a family errands so just happened to make a diversion on the way back... LT Shrike occasionally singing to itself in the breezy autumn sunshine. 121

parkstonebirder.bsky.social @parkstonebirder.bsky.social · 17/08/2026Definitely tickable, I reckon. After all, if you stay on Fair Isle or somewhere like that, the main way you see rarities is in someone else's hand unless you're a ringer yourself. 030
parkstonebirder.bsky.social @parkstonebirder.bsky.social · 21/06/2026Thanks Nick, that does look like a good shout. 010
parkstonebirder.bsky.social @parkstonebirder.bsky.social · 21/06/2026Two mystery moths for your help please @mothiduk.bsky.social. Is the first just a very faded Turnip or something more interesting? The second seems like some kind of faded tortricidae but I can't pin it down to anything? 320
parkstonebirder.bsky.social @parkstonebirder.bsky.social · 19/06/2026I walked the full circuit of the airfield, but I wasn't really early. I'll try the evening sometime, thanks. 110
parkstonebirder.bsky.social @parkstonebirder.bsky.social · 19/06/2026Is evening best? I tried this morning and saw plenty of corn buntings, red kite, kestrels, but not a peep out of any quail! 100

parkstonebirder.bsky.social @parkstonebirder.bsky.social · 23/05/2026Hi @mothiduk.bsky.social , Another season, more mystery moths! Please can you help with these two. First I wonder if it is a small mottled willow but no brown? Definitely slightly shorter and a lot slimmer than treble lines I caught alongside it. The micro I have no idea! Thanks 220
parkstonebirder.bsky.social @parkstonebirder.bsky.social · 21/05/2026Wouldn't worry about that. The Parkstone bucket trap had its best night so far this year: 18 of 12! 010
parkstonebirder.bsky.social @parkstonebirder.bsky.social · 21/05/2026Red footed falcon still present at Holt Heath this morning but pretty elusive. Waited all morning for 10 mins of poor flight views. (Others briefly saw it perched). A good selection of other raptors and very showy cuckoo. parkstonebirder.bsky.social @parkstonebirder.bsky.social · 06/03/2026No tern confusion today at Poole Park! @harbourbirds.bsky.social 0101
parkstonebirder.bsky.social @parkstonebirder.bsky.social · 05/03/2026Yes, it was perched at such an odd angle and at such range that it had everyone fooled. The 2 birders who were on it before me thought they were looking at the Forsters until I showed them someone else's photo from earlier in the day. 010
parkstonebirder.bsky.social @parkstonebirder.bsky.social · 05/03/2026You could be right. I never saw this one fly so I might have misjudged its size. But earlier I saw definite sandwich terns and then others which looked smaller and didn't seem to fly in the heavy way that Sandwich terns do. However you now have me wondering whether that was just range. 000
parkstonebirder.bsky.social @parkstonebirder.bsky.social · 05/03/2026Unfortunately not. This was phonescoped at 45x zoom on my scope and then enlarged. I did wonder about Roseate but it was too far away. There were several common sized terns fishing far out between about 3-4 pm so I assumed the Brownsea ones had returned. 200

parkstonebirder.bsky.social @parkstonebirder.bsky.social · 01/01/2026There's a good description of the differences in the Collins bird guide. If you don't have one I'd recommend it as virtually essential for any birder. As well as a book, you can also get it as an app for your phone. 110

parkstonebirder.bsky.social @parkstonebirder.bsky.social · 15/07/2025Thanks. Best I can estimate from the photo (knowing the size of my trap) is 6 or 7 mm long which doesn't seem very conclusive! It does look most like some of the sturnipennella photos lve now found online though. 110
