I am especially happy that this means we can protect the jobs and pay of our parks workers who make the system go! I’m grateful to @ehbforbet.bsky.social @elliottpayne.org & @aishaforward10.com for supporting this & to @olsenforparks.bsky.social for his leadership in getting the levy through BET!

This afternoon at the BET, the board passed the Minneapolis tax levy, which included the 5.86% levy increase to fund the park board. This means we will be able to continue to offer the outstanding services and experiences of our parks to the people of Minneapolis, and our visitors.

A win for our parks! 💚🌳 After weeks of organizing and community action, the BET set the Park Board’s maximum levy at the full 5.86% requested. Thank you to everyone who testified, emailed, made postcards, showed up & spoke out.

This might be the first protest sign to ever reference the Board of Estimate and Taxation. Many here for the public hearing are asking the BET to set a max property tax levy that allows the park board to receive the additional $3 million they asked for.

Yesterday, Mayor Frey proposed a 2.5% Park Board levy increase, leaving MPRB $3.2M short of the Park Board’s requested 5.86% levy increase to maintain current services. That means major cuts to park services, programs, and jobs. Close the $3.2M gap. Fully fund our parks.

I want to share publicly that I plan to support MPRB's request for a 5.6% levy increase. The mayor's proposal of 2.5% would hurt our parks and save taxpayers little. Minneapolis parks are the best in the country and we should build on our strengths, not weaken them. www.minnpost.com/community-vo...

A message to the city of Minneapolis: Consolidation would hurt our parks
The quality of our Minneapolis parks would erode under consolidation and be an ineffective use of taxpayer dollars.
