I'll have to be vague on the details, but I've been sad to see and hear how the Vanderbilt report is being used opportunistically by people who never cared for humanities research to begin with to begin "debates" about the "state" of the humanities.

The "declining majors and enrollments" anxiety is downstream from underinvestment in the research infrastructure of the humanities. Perversely, the obsessive focus on this (see the New Yorker's "Decline of the English Major") really distracts from the underlying issue, which is research investment.

I had not seen this clip where Tammy Duckworth advises Democrats to "not impeach anybody," "get back to work" and "allow" Donald Trump to "save face" and I would just like to remind the senator from IL that the federal government took 4,000 Chicagoans and murdered a 38-year-old father last fall.

My mom made omurice quite a bit when I was a kid and would make a smile with ketchup on the egg (she did this recently, but the ketchup splattered so it looked more like 🥴), so when I intuitively think ketchup on eggs might be gross I remember that.

Kind of hard for a professional organization to argue that history is integral to democracy when it goes to lengths to quash democracy within its own membership. And this isn't what I want my members dues to be used for. I suspect many will feel the same. 🗃️
If the AHA leadership continues to heed that advice, its members can expect further silencing of their voices within the organization. In addition to recommending that the AHA frame the historical profession as an arm of the “national security” apparatus, Thorn Run has told its leadership that it should reroute “all future requests for public statements,” “all member concerns regarding conflict zones,” and “all concerns regarding historians in conflict zones” to a leadership committee, so that it can contain and control “out-of-scope debates.” The aim, in other words, is to “utilize the January 2026 veto as a safe harbor precedent to prevent future mission-creep” by shifting from vetoes to a place where institutional silence ensures that there is nothing to veto.

Maybe we will finally wake up to the fact that “free speech“ and “viewpoint diversity” are actually bad in academia. What you want is peer-reviewed knowledge, not a debate-me-bro culture in which empirically discredited views get resources & funding & platforms just because.

You can also add thinly sliced onion to the batter and sometimes my mom adds shredded potatoes in place of the flour as the starch. The consistency and zucchini/batter ratio is sort of up to your preferences

Pollyanna Rhee 이채영 @parhee.bsky.social · 11/08/2026
I think a rough estimate would be about 1/2-1 ts salt, 1/2 cup of flour and 1/3-1/2 cup of water per zucchini. After it's done you can cut into slices and eat it dipped in soy sauce.

Cut/shred zucchini into matchsticks, add flour (or a mixture of flour, cornstarch, &/or rice flour if you want it crunchier), salt, and enough water to make it into a batter of a pancake-like consistency. Heat a pan with oil and add the batter (about 1/4" thick) and cook until golden on both sides.
