As a born and raised Catholic, currently way beyond lapsed, I like Pope Leo. My devout MAGA Catholic parents and other family, immediate and extended, seriously scare me. I realized their hypocrisy decades ago. It took their support of trump to seal it.

My parents are like this. My dad ran his roofing company into the ground. We would have been homeless if my grandma didn't literally buy us a house to live in. Yet, they are MAGA and complain about lazy people needing social services. I mentioned this once and their heads exploded.

… I think that’s a big part of the reason my parents haven’t chosen to reject Trump after any one of his scandals. They know there will be an immense blowback from their community. It’s not the only reason - they’ve fully drunk the kool aid - but it’s one reason.

My parents were 100% MAGA before they passed in 2024. I remember one fight we had when I tried to warn them about Trump and ask why they hated immigrants and anyone not like them. My dad yelled: “what the hell did they teach you in college”?? All I could think of to answer was: “the truth”.

She’s slowly beginning to accept it. I talked to her yesterday. She said she has to vote Dem to keep Trump in check because Republicans aren’t doing it. I still don’t think she is a big fan of the Democratic Party, but she understands Trump has to be stopped. She is 83. If she can do it, others can.
