Oh no, so sad to have missed this! Would've loved to take part in a parasaurolophus discussion! Perhaps another time. 🙏

#ArtBoost today is for DJ Washington (I can't find him on BSky), palaeoartist and conservation biology graduate based in the US, producing striking, bold, sometimes stylized art of ancient animals. It sure would be incredible if a book called MESOZOIC ART II included a section of his art, right?
Striking blue and black profile if feathered maniraptoran, I think Deinonychus. Two hadrosaurs in side view, green background. Pterosaurs in flight at night, silhouetted against blue sky with moon.Profile of brachiosaur against green background.

Hello #PortfolioDay I’m Andy an artist who loves drawing big dead things (mostly dinosaurs). I’ve provided illustrations for museums, exhibitions and scientific papers and I’m looking for exciting projects for the second half of 2025. Find me at www.andyfrazer.com
An illustration of archaeopteryx, an extinct bird-like dinosaur, leaping from a tree in pursuit of a dragonfly. A portrait of megalosaurus, a large carnivorous dinosaur, with powerful blood-stained jaws. A portrait of Corythoraptor, a feathered dinosaur with beaked jaws and a large boney crest on top of its head. An illustration of Tarbosaurus, a close relative of T.rex, lying in a jungle clearing, with a small bird perched on the tip of its snout.

Looks like it's OK to share parts of my new Scientific American #paleoart. The theme is "old vs. new" restorations of #dinosaur horns and armour: cue stereotyped past and progressive modern takes on Borealopelta, Stegosaurus and Triceratops. Full artworks: www.scientificamerican.com/article/dino...
Cropped image of a modern and old-school take on armoured dinosaurs. The modern image, showing Borealopelta, is on the left, with brown colouring deduced from analysis of the Borealopelta fossil. The right, slightly faded image shows a stereotyped vision of nodosaurs based on various 20th century artworks.Old vs. new takes on Stegosaurus. The modern version is on the left, with more defined anatomy, countershaded skin and variable plate structure. The old version, right, is slightly faded, and has the same green and red colour scheme that most stegosaurs had several decades ago.Old vs. new Triceratops. The modern take, left, features enormous horns and vivid facial colouring, as seen in some animals that engage in facial combat in modern times. The old take is slightly faded, and shows a Jurassic Park-style elephantine reconstruction with short, bone-coloured horns and much wobbly anatomy.

Last but not least, there's an original Triceratops skull (quite rare in Germany), a deep-rooted obsession with Allosaurus specimens (so many mounts at this museum!) and a little Nanosaurus for good measure. Overall, a fossil collection worth seeing if you ever find yourself in Berlin!

Here's a few close-ups of the sauropod hall. There's plenty of smaller pterosaur and fish fossils as well, so be sure to check those out! There's also a couple smaller herbivorous theropod mounts. Really cool!

Ok, so this is (I think) a first for BSky... I'm going to try and produced a megathread on #PrehistoricPlanet, specifically season 2. Previous megathreads at BSky have not worked the way they should so I'm a bit cautious. But here we go, please be patient as these take an age to put together....

Some new #paleoart of Iguanodon for #FossilFriday. Iguanodon recently passed its 200th naming anniversary and it's been drawn to death (it was - and I've done the maths on this - by far the most popular dinosaur subject of the 19th century), but it's still a cool animal to paint. #sciart #fossil
A large, orange, white and green dinosaur pauses midstep on a cloudy day in the Early Cretaceous, amid small conifers (Pseudofenelopsis) and Tempskya tree ferns. She rears slightly from the dusty orange ground and looks to her right, lifting her thumb-spiked hands into the air. She seems deep in thought, perhaps wondering if she turned the stove off. Is she getting more forgetful now that she's over 200 years old? No: she _did_ turn the stove off, and she's not forgetful, just busy. Not all dinosaurs have sustained palaeoartistic interest for as long as she has, and she's as in demand now as much as ever. You go, girl.

The Elgol Dinosaur is out! This is the first and most complete dinosaur skeleton from the Jurassic of Isle of Skye, Scotland. I got to work with the amazing @elsa-panciroli.bsky.social on bringing this early ornithischian back to life. #Sciart Link to paper: www.cambridge.org/core/journal...
Colourful digital illustration of a misty lagoon landscape in evening sun, during the middle Jurassic period. In the middle ground, there is a smallish ornithischian dinosaur standing in shallow water and lookind around. The dinosaur is purplish grey with green and creamy white patterns. On the foreground, there are rocks covered in mosses, ferns and fungi, with a small lizard hiding among the vegetation. On a tree branch above, a small mammal (Krusatodon) yawns. The background has more mossy rocks and gnarly trees partially obscured by mist, as well as a turtle and a salamander.
