Leaving your home or village before marriage is a modern capitalistic thing For most of history moving out meant moving into an open space in the field next to your home and putting up a tent or cabin in a week Leaving home now is like getting out of a boat in the middle of the ocean

This was quoted from Wikipedia If we get George’s commentary on it he would say, The employers gobbled up all the productive gains from their employees but landlords gobble up all of those gains through undemocratic rent! And it’s true. Rent takes everything. The landlord’s monopoly strikes again!

“While the productive capacity rose enormously with industrialization, people were made busier, while one might have expected the opposite to occur. This was at least the expectation among many intellectuals such as Paul Lafargue. The liberal John Stuart Mill also predicted that society…”

He had a successful career but lost it when he became sick (undue hardship). Read the entire piece. Mirrors my own experience (20yrs instability) That’s rent. Ban rent. I pay $1000 a month and have nothing to show for it at the end of the month. Open the commons Give everyone a UBI

Poverty solution 3182: Ban rent. Ban rent, any amount you pay gives you that much in ownership. Open the commons. Give land grants. Spread out not up. Rent never gives ownership. You can’t save if your money goes to rent. Rent gives you nothing to show for it. Modern feudalism (lords of land)

Give half of all taxes back to the people monthly as a dividend and to the people to decide how to spend it in their communities That would be democratic That would distribute the power And allow and remind people they can write laws bills and propositions as well

Make all rent half price instantly, right now. No increases ever until there is an open commons and total rent reform And tax rent payment on the landlords side (25%) The tax dividend comes from taxes and goes onto EBT cards. Opt in. Unconditional

Cities counties, states and gov do two things immediately: - add rent controls (do this now) - add a sales tax of one or two cents Use rent controls to stop the parasitic rent prices Use the sales tax to give everyone a monthly dividend Call the tax a democracy dividend #UBI

If you don’t like people being reliant on you then sorry that’s life… But if you want much less people reliant on you then support a UBI now A UBI gets people to the place where they can solve some problems on their own

There’s a point at which a person has enough resources to solve their own problems on their own Before that time they are reliant on others For example, someone that needs a car can solve transportation on their own Someone without a car is *reliant* on public transportation A UBI delivers them

If you're working in the AI space, you need to be pushing for universal basic income RIGHT NOW. It's not good enough to just say UBI may be needed in the future. And put your money where your mouth is, or else people will assume you're lying about the capabilities of AI and/or will push against AI.

In the American civil war there were two sides: - abolitionists - anti-abolitionists The abolitionists believed slavery was wrong. They wanted to abolish it The anti-abolitionists did not want to abolish slavery. We are at a similar crossroads with UBI “What do you mean? Aren’t people free?”

The debate about poverty usually splits into two camps: It’s your fault It’s societies fault It can be that or a combination of both Therefore a theory on poverty can be broken down into these categories: - self created - externally created In those categories are the following: 🧵 1/9

If I were mayor: - Create a tax to fund a local dividend (proposition) - Redistribute half of tax money to citizens - Let citizens select where tax money is spent - implement rent control (rent to half or price at 20 yrs tied to min wage) #UBI

Pop quiz: The following is from a school text book form the 1950s describing life during settlement of America A settler could obtain an acre of land for free or for sixpence Today that same acre would cost $35,000 Why did the cost go up?
000
Velara 3 @paradise84.bsky.social · 05/03/2026
The simplest way i can explain poverty: Then: “An acre was sixpence” Now: “An acre is $25,000” One is five days work n the other five years work Same land, same person The only difference is when n the advancement n development of civilization

I spent some time considering the purpose of law enforcement These departments and organizations would better spend their time fighting the causes of crime than criminals. There’s 4 billion of us fighting the causes I believe a UBI and a supportive community are a start

Why doesn’t the US government, a group of people who claim the country is democratic, give due process to other countries and people of other countries? That’s the first and most basic requirement of a democracy lol In a democracy everyone receives basic rights

Apple should have a privacy score for apps and its own operating system I like iOS and osx and that’s due to the engineers. For the company and decision makers, iOS would be at zero as well as many apps and a truth score which would also be zero lol “We track and sell your data and lie about it”

If someone else controls the costs of living and you aren’t allowed access to nature then you are not truly free and the rewards for your work can be taken by someone else

I’ve argued among many others that you are not poor because of anything you’ve done but simply because you’ve been born later than other people into societies that operate exactly like the game of Monopoly Predecessors claimed up the land & resources nature meant for all & now price gouge its use

They claimed the land up, more than could every need or use, excluded everyone from it using the laws of man and violence and then demand a fee for it They didn’t create the Earth. And God, if he’s or she is fair, would say that everyone get a fair share of his creation. As would Mother Nature

Getting is a job doesn’t solve everything. It doesn’t get you housing. It gets you money. And that may or may not be enough for food or housing Getting two jobs is not practical, it’s not sustainable and it’s not healthy And if you have to get multiple jobs to survive that’s a failed society UBI

Your survival should not have to depend on if someone else needs work done But that’s what wage slavery is. That’s what many modern governments have. Slave societies. Your survival should not have to depend on if someone else needs work done. What if there is no work? Starve? A failed society

Taxes If it were up to me you wouldn’t be taxed on your home or its immediate property You would also be able to direct your taxes Taxes wouldn’t be filed but happen during transactions Finally the people would receive half of all taxes back to them for personal or communal use
