Anyone need a genuinely *nice* story for this Wednesday? "Takahashi thought the lost barrel might be adrift somewhere on the Bering Sea by now. Or, he imagined an 'Alaskan bear wearing my down jacket or like, playing my flute...'"

B.C. man reunited with beloved flute, 5 years after it floated away down a Yukon river | CBC News

Jun Takahashi was stunned when he saw the online post: someone in the Yukon bush had found a canoe barrel full of his mildew-y camping gear, and his long-lost flute.

the scale of the damage ubisoft has done to itself this year is truly staggering

But make no mistake: layoffs, as opposed to games, are the most notable thing coming out of Ubisoft these days. The company started its year with cuts at Star Wars Outlaws studio Massive Entertainment and the closure of Assassin's Creed: Rebellion developer Ubisoft Halifax—the latter of which had just unionized—and never really let up. The reaper’s scythe has also hit, among others, Ubisoft Barcelona (which also worked on Resynced), Ubisoft Paris, Ubisoft Red Storm, Ubisoft Winnipeg, and Ubisoft Belgrade.

The near-constant bloodletting is in service of an increasingly convoluted restructuring program that has seen the publisher’s dwindling collection of studios divided into “creative houses” focused on specific genres and series—one of many byproducts of a $1.25 billion bailout from Tencent that kept the flailing Guillemot family in charge of the business it's clearly no longer fit to run. Another byproduct? Plans to cut Ubisoft’s costs by €200 million before March 2028. In response to the chaos, workers have organized large-scale strikes and other actions. But so far they’ve only managed to gum up the gears of Ubisoft’s layoff machine, not grind it to a halt.

I really don't think folks who weren't there grasp just how much these generations really were shamed or even prosecuted for stuff that giant companies do all the time now like ffs, websites used to shame people for 𝘩𝘰𝘵𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 images without paying the site that hosted it for their bandwidth!

45) The Girl With A Thousand Faces - Sunyi Dean 📚 Finished? Oh yes! This story is about ghosts, war, and Hong Kong folklore - with more than a smidge of body horror. It is poignant and powerful and absolutely captivating. I’ve not read anything quite like it before. Genuinely marvellous.

The front cover showing a fading painted mask of a blind lady with red lips and pale orange blush on pale skin. The mask is framed by swirling lanes of gold and black. Across the centre is the title, with the author name at the top.

44) The Apothecary Diaries (LN) Volume 9 - Natsu Hyuuga 📚 Finished? Yes! Things get serious for Maomao when she learns more about surgical techniques than she ever expected. It's just as well, considering danger is right around the corner 👀 it gets dark, but this volume was so readable 🤌🤌🤌

Maomao dressed in greens wears a thoughtful expression; another character in gold stares in the opposite direction. Across the bottom is the title in green and white font; at the top left is the author/illustrator names and volume number.
