In Super Paper Mario, Mr. L is actually much smaller than Mario and Luigi, and gets scaled up at runtime. The game was originally developed for the GameCube before moving to Wii; Mario and Luigi received new Wii graphics while Mr. L was stuck with small GameCube textures.

E3 2004 footage of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (GCN) from a Famitsu Wave DVD. This is a higher-quality version of the footage that we have. Similar to other E3 2004 demo footage, this does not contain background music, so sound effects can clearly be heard.

Super Mario RPG features Jinx, a miniboss noted for his small size. The prototype version of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga shows that he was planned to reappear in that game. Possibly to increase the comedic factor, he was made even smaller.

TTYD contains an unused graphic of Mario jumping while crouching. This carried over into SPM, where it's less compressed. Despite the latter game featuring the ability to jump while crouching, it utilizes the normal crouching pose, so this remains unused.

The TTYD Remake actually has some remnants of Color Splash and Origami King's sprite style in the game. The characters in many pictures and posters in-game lack shading and have thinner black outlines; the only thing they are missing is the white outlines.

The TTYD Remake seemingly used several different art styles for characters throughout development, including CS/TOK-style sprites, CS/TOK-style sprites without the white outlines, shaded sprites with white outlines, and shaded sprites without the "paper-cutout" depth effect.
