Exactly. I'm far more interested in how radical the redesign of LF, RF, 3B, SS ends up being.

And being serious about those moves will set the stage for the seriousness of the discussion of positional moves.

Since all we can do is look forward now, I think the Phillies new a different bench coach, hitting coach and baserunning coach. Can't run back the whole staff.

He should be the #5 starter on Opening Day but he's also still going to have a learning curve. Mostly importantly the Phillies need to figure out far better 6/7/8 starting pitching depth than the past two years. I still think he can be an above-average #5 in 2027

Yeah, given that they're never a million years hiring a rookie manager or some kind of free-thinking renegade, there's probably not a significant difference between Mattingly and hiring a Brad Ausmus retread-type (sorry, Brad)

They are actually going to retain Don Mattingly after watching him manage this team? Just a front office that is completely out of ideas and unable to expand their circle of people they know.

Do we have any better clarity on whether Japanese star players might skip the posting process this winter & wait an extra year, due to so many uncertainties with the lockout? Because that will change a lot of offseason strategies.

I think the Phillies actually need to sign 2 quality utility guys this winter (and end the three-catcher nonsense). Given how limited those kind of guys are, it's a rare case in which I think they should probably overpay to keep Sosa. Then find one more.

Chris Otto (Papergreat) @papergreat.bsky.social · 13/10/2026
Given that Bohm won't be back and it's unlikely that either Sosa or Arraez will be back, I think Stott is basically off-limits this winter and you might even have a conversation with him about a reasonable extension. He's a very solid guy to bat 7th. Not his fault they can't figure out 1-6.

I'm just worried that somehow the course of this NLCS is going to make Mattingly look less bad, assuming that Phillies haven't already secretly decided to keep him.

This innocent country set you down in a ghetto in which, in fact, it intended that you should perish. Let me spell out precisely what I mean by that, for the heart of the matter is here, and the root of my dispute with my country. You were born where you were born and faced the future that you faced because you were black and for no other reason. The limits of your ambition were, thus, expected to be set forever. You were born into a society which spelled out with brutal clarity, and in as many ways as possible, that you were a worthless human being. You were not expected to aspire to excellence: you were expected to make peace with mediocrity.

It's all hypothetical because we're the last team they'd trade with. And they'd make us overpay. I like him, I just don't know if he's the same guy anymore after all the injuries. If we're just toying around I'd probably say Wood & Marsh.

I do think they need to find a way to tweak what happened in this year's AL, where the Rays (theoretically) got the more dangerous and better-record opponent, while one of Houston/Chicago/Cleveland was guaranteed a spot in the ALCS. But maybe this year was an outlier.

Can't really discuss Arraez in a vaccum. He's going to cost a good bit, so it really depends what else the Phillies do this winter. There are scenarios in which he'd complement lineup very well. There are scenarios in which I'd rather put the $$ elsewhere.

I've already seen SUSPIRIA (1977) and EYES WITHOUT A FACE (1960) mentioned, and the one that came to my mind first is not technically classified as horror, but much of LA BELLE ET LA BÊTE (1946) by Cocteau is genuinely frightening. One of the most gorgeous black and white films ever produced.
