I don't know what happened in Las Almas, after Graves took Los Vaqueros' base, but whatever it was… I suppose I'm grateful, in a cocked-up way. Grateful that whatever they went through brought them closer until they stopped being Sergeant MacTavish and Lieutenant Riley. Soap and Ghost.

I wanted to see two things: how far Soap would go to reach, and how much Ghost could take without burning alive. If it worked, they'd both grow. If not, well… as long as no one got bloody killed, it could be fixed. And for all that distance Ghost has held for years… he didn't back down.

Opposite Soap in every way imaginable. Polar opposites, really. He's a good leader. That's why I did it, because I trust him. Ghost has had my back for years—just like he's had Gaz's, and even Soap's at a distance. But forcing them together… Still bloody surprised that worked.

Pairing them up had _not_ been part of my original plan by any stretch. I've known Simon a long, long time—and he barely worked with _me_, let alone anyone else. That's always been the unspoken rule of handling him: send him in solo, get him out quiet, and let him keep his distance.
