He watches in mounting horror as the helicopter comes crashing down, and it’s so close to MacMillan, he’s not going to make it, he’s going to watch his Captain be split in two by the blades and he doesn’t—

The helicopter lands in an explosion of debris and a blade cuts through the air until it makes contact with the ground and breaks right before it can slide through MacMillan. John can’t breathe as he watches MacMillan raise a shaky hand to hold back the blade like a gladiator refusing to beg for mercy, the gladius of the rotor digging into a leather vambrace like the scythe of a chthonic god. No mercy – but the blade stops. Then he’s already running, making his way to where his Captain is not getting up.

Narcissosbythepool reply: I think Mac is a little split there. He misses the sort of innocence he was able to wrangle out of Price under his tutelage (not that there was much to wrangle anymore but he got the last dregs out), and he wishes he could keep that bright-eyed lieutenant forever, the one who wasn't quite as jaded as Price today. If we assume they didn't sleep together when Price was still his lieutenant, he definitely regrets not picking him up and teaching him in other ways too. If they did, he misses how the quite inexperienced Price blushed all the way to his chest as Mac demonstrated what years of experience can do.

Then again. Like you said – maybe he does get a kick out of a captain being so devoted to him? That this jaded, angry man who has by now been betrayed by the world to not believe in anything… that he believes in Mac? That has to hit like a drug. After all these years, he still looks up to Mac, still wants to be good for him, good to him. Once again, if we assume they didn't sleep together back in the day, this is the ripe time to pick him up, warmed by nostalgia and a tired look in his eye begging for release. If they did sleep together, what better time to reheat an old flame than this? Have Price look up at him with wonder in his eyes like in the old days, as if years have simply fallen away and they're back where they started.
