All courses in this year’s CEMFI Summer School look terrific. Applications are still possible for some of them, including — purely coincidentally — one taught by yours truly on the Economics of Global Value Chains. Come join us in Madrid!

I visited the University of Basel last December and sat down with Rolf Weder to discuss several aspects of my research and of global trade. A lot has changed in the last 4 months, but some of what I say may still be of relevance😅 Link to the interview: innoscape.ch/de/publikati...

1/ 📢 New paper alert! 📄 Together with Vitalii Tubdenov, we propose a measure of the "Average Period of Production" (APP) to capture the temporal dimension of production processes. It is inspired by Böhm-Bawerk’s capital theory.

What would be the impact of Trump's announced 25% tariff on all steel and aluminium imports? Lydia Cox's (coxlydia.com) job-market paper, now an R&R at the American Economic Review, provides good guidance. Latest version is here (coxlydia.com/papers/cox_s...).

I've now turned the BBVA-EEA Lecture I gave in San Antonio in January and in Madrid this week into a working paper: scholar.harvard.edu/sites/schola... The paper will come out in the Journal of the European Econ. Assoc. some time next year, but it's not a final version yet. Comments most welcome!

There's been a lot of debate about what economic theory says regarding tariffs. Drawing on my research with quantitative economic models, here's a thread explaining the textbook logic for why "tariffs are bad" for revenue generation. 🧵 Let’s dive in!
