For a VisCom assignment I have to make a little 8 page zine, and one of the topic focuses you can chose is a social issue you care about. So surprising no one I'm going to do 'Fem-SM, gender rep in wargames'. If at the end of it I don't hate it, I'll make it public.

I am once again asking my fellow hobbyists that if everything being released atm fills you with displeasure/anger, please learn to move on. Sometimes you fall out of hobbies, its natural & normal. A little while back I got an autism diagnosis, it involved talking to a psych for an extended series of session. Ultimately I think the protracted process was a bit of a waste when I simply could have told them; yes I do watch 26 years of classic Dr Who every 12months or so.

I greatly dislike working 9am to 9pm days to stay on top of 3 pieces of assessment all due within the week. I've mostly stayed on top of this stuff, but the final weeks worth of delivered material for the 3 subjects needs to be incorporated and submitted within a handful of days of being taught it.

Design is a funny subject to study. I am as likely to encounter a lecturer who uses AI at the drop of a hat, or who thinks being able to sell garbage as fine dining is laudable, as I am to find them teaching the philosophical ramification of consumerism, or how maker movements are truly admirable.

I love DnD, been my pastime/solace for 35+ years. But I would give good money for a combat difficulty calculator that actually worked well. So I could pick 'hard' for an experienced team and it be hard (or mid for mid etc). My experience tends to polarised: cake walk - ahhh fuck I miscalculated.

Researching Mucha for a uni assignment and resonating with the struggle: As Mucha started to get more illustration work commissions he had to wait weeks or months to get paid, often not till after the work was published, leading to years of work he described as 'suffering in penury'.

Some design teachers have a real dislike for raster images/photoshop. On one of my current lessons on concepting up layouts it recommends pencil and paper or illustrator but says to stay away from PS as the files sizes are large and glitchy... and im like WTF? (99% of my concept stuff is in PS.)

One of the more disappointing/frustrating things in my studying of design is the amount of subjects that either don't actually teach, or mark you on things not taught. One subject involves telling you a bunch of skills to go an learn each week, and the class exclusively involves checking if you did.

Cutting out shadow puppet silhouettes for a fine art uni subject about different methods of creating narrative with light/shadows. Definitely a bit different then the much more technical/theory focus of most of the Design subjects.

Almost 20 years ago now I digitally painted a picture of my flatmate. Although I was not new to digital painting, it was the longest I had focused in and worked on a single image at the time. She passed a couple of years ago, and I'm glad I have this memory, even though the high res version is lost

More Uni thoughts. At 40 credit points a semester, you have a very limited amount of hours you can commit to each subject... and none of them act like it. I feel like im constantly under the gun, I am rushing to get the minimum needed for each subject done in those hours.

Being back at uni is deeply weird. I walk into one class and feel like they could give me an exam right there and I'd be good, walk into another and feel overwhelmed by the volume of stuff I need to get done. It's a fkn emotional roller-coaster for an anxious person such as myself.

Bit the bullet and changed my adobe plan to the full CC (student price) I need a lot of the stuff for Uni, but it gives me a sad as I was only paying 1/2 price for my previous photography plan and I will have lost that if I convert back at the end of my studies. :(

Starting on a Dark Elf Hydra, not a super old model (I think it was 2012 or 13?) but no longer for sale given that the sorceress on foot is the only DE model still up in Cities of Sigmar. Glad I nabbed one when I did.
