Boom done and all assessment in. Now just to decide if I want to put an application in for the academic group I was invited to apply for. My knee jerk reaction to such things is they feel a little elitist... but I've always been weird about such things to my own detriment.

I know that feel. Most of my old RPGs and minis went the way of the Dodo when I jumped countries a couple of times. But my Vampire books and a smattering of other RPG core books I put into storage, and dang Im glad I did.

Jyhad/Vampire the Eternal Struggle was IMO also very good and only let down by larger amount of players needed to make it work. Old goth me played that a bunch.

Booo. But yeah the game itself was great. Keyword combos made for big silly fun. A Shaolin monk who could become any (Keyword:Martial Artist), time to become 4 Fists of Burning Fury the demon Martial Artist! Man, when he got angry... :P

There were too many to list, but the ones I played: World of Darkness Vampire, which was great, and changeling where you had a character standee that went on adventures. There was Star Trek, Battletech, Shadowfist (another exceptional stand out, Hong Kong action movie card game), Magic.

I definitely have no insight as to the reasons, other then there seemed to be a glut all competing and some were very obvious cash grabs. To uniformed me, there was an overwhelming wealth of choice and then it was 'suddenly' gone.

In the 90s there was a surge in TTRPGs, Mini games & CCGs. For a hot second even in Aus there were shops that were dedicated exclusively to selling CCGs & with like 100 system options. Then it all crashed and seemingly only a handful struggled on. It feels like we are rushing there again...

To frame how silly my brain is about this stuff. In hot spotting to my phone I immediately worry about my data use, but I so rarely use my phone data and my plan rolls it over each month so I currently have more the 200gig. I can be a utterly ridiculous human.

Even though I can use my phone/tether my PC to it, every time the house internet goes down it feels like such a weird void. I barely social media these days and yet the sensation remains. This strange and irrelevant absence feeling, its so odd.

Narrative play I think is great if you playing with close friends & you all have a keenness. But in games with randoms, people focus on fairness (or abusing the system within the bounds of the rules as a facade of "fair") I think its hard for people to see matched play as anything but the 'fairest'

To throw 2c into the arena, I think it is in part a problem of our own making. When I first got into AoS, there was 3 modes: A kind of free for all, narrative and matched play. In my local area everyone insisted on matched play as it was the only way to be 'fair'.

A little while back I got an autism diagnosis, it involved talking to a psych for an extended series of session. Ultimately I think the protracted process was a bit of a waste when I simply could have told them; yes I do watch 26 years of classic Dr Who every 12months or so.

I greatly dislike working 9am to 9pm days to stay on top of 3 pieces of assessment all due within the week. I've mostly stayed on top of this stuff, but the final weeks worth of delivered material for the 3 subjects needs to be incorporated and submitted within a handful of days of being taught it.

I loved the concept of legion of grief. It was a way to play a bunch of undead in the same army. Not powerful, just thematic. Skeletons, ghosts, and ghouls in 1 place not 3 factions. So I bought these things, painted them at my usual glacial pace... and got to field them twice before it was removed.

AoS frequently does this annoying thing where they will make a way for units to operate outside their usual scope via things like 'army of renown' or the one I got burnt by 'legion of grief' then at any given point in time 6months to 2 years later... you can't anymore.
