In retrospect it feels kinda like the franchise's awkward teen years. ORAS has also done so much to rehab gen 3's rep lol

imo as someone who started playing in gen 4 and only played emerald after gen 5 came out i never thought it was *bad* but i never got the hype either. Gen 3 is a huge leap in terms of gameplay and polish compared to GSC but it looks so rough compared to the DS games.

god midnight club is so so so so so fucking good. i will never forgive you rockstar (unless you hire me and/or make a new one smile)

But that's the only outcome that can justify trillions of investment dollars + untold resource draw. If that doesn't materialize (or even if it does, but is far more costly than investors were led to believe), then you have an infrastructure buildout whose justification never was close to reality.

This is an industry whose actual value has been pushed aside because promises of super-intelligence are far more appealing to those with capital. It allows them to more easily shape the world around them while eliminating the majority of labor cost.

Even if you grant that data centers provide long-term job growth, that their resource demand is overblown, and that the product they power will live up to all that we've been promised, it doesn't make sense financially! When you *don't* grant those things, the proposition is absurd.

The firms aren't public, their financials aren't clear and we don't have a clear view of how they're gonna actually make a profit. On the other hand, the companies funding them to the tune of hundreds of billions are using every trick in the book to obscure their debts and other general costs.

On a hardware level, components (mainly GPUs) have a very limited lifespan made shorter with continued use under load - we saw this with crypto a few years back. The hardware going in AI data centers is a money pit. That'd be ok if these firms were more transparent about cost/revenue but they're not
