Spent a lot of time today thinking about how many times I overlapped with Jamezetta Bedford at different events—Drakeford Complex opening, a Pee Wee Homes tour, transportation luncheons—in person in the short time I’ve been in office, and what I learned from her. Too soon. What a loss.

For many years, there were allegations that ICE would “release” critically ill people in hospitals so that their deaths wouldn’t be recorded as in ICE custody. To fix this, in 2021 the Biden admin required ICE to report deaths occurring up to 30 days after release. Now that rule has been dropped.

Mamdani hasn't had time to really think about all that space he now has, because he spends most of his time at City Hall and around New York City. He tries to keep a semblance of his old life by getting around the city on foot, by bike or train.
