Decompiling closed source software using Claude into non-functional open source software is not how this shit works but more to the point if I go to a project’s website that purports to be about this shit and see “Pricing” that’s a huge red flag.

"Island In The Sea" (1987) is a tough listen... it sounds almost like they were trying for diversity, but the reverby, 80's production kinda kills the effort before it can even get going?! Like it doesn't ever gel as an album. I don't know; weird one for me. www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOpS...

The Wiki entry for the next album (1986's "Partners") notes The Ottawa Citizen concluded that "the laid-back tone of his recent albums gives way to a practically comatose feel." I like the consistency in these mid-80's records, but that feedback is rather spot on. open.spotify.com/album/5nM2Q8...

"The Promiseland" was released in early 1986, and was another record where Nelson arranged several songs by other writers. A lot to like on this record, and it's also worth listening to because it closes with version of Bach's "Minuet in G" for some reason!? open.spotify.com/album/2WHSNS...

1985 also saw a couple of largely forgettable duet albums, one with Faron Young ("Funny How Time Slips Away") and one with Hank Snow ("Brand on My Heart"). There's a couple of nicely presented songs on the latter, but these aren't critical to your appreciation of Willie Nelson!

Nelson kicked off 1985 with "Me & Paul," and the Paul here isn't like McCartney or Simon... it refers to his longtime drummer Paul English! I really like this album; it's a great collection of songs! open.spotify.com/album/1HdEYT...

In 1984 we also got "Songwriter," a soundtrack he actually cut with Kris Kristofferson. It's a good mix of both of their songs, although they're mostly rather on the slow and sappy side. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivZD...

Omigod, this is the most heartwarming story possible! Backpack (bear 89) is the son of the 2019 winner of Fat Bear Week, Holly (bear 435). In 2007, he injured his foot & a practice of riding on momma's Holly's back had a new meaning: he was mobility-restricted while it healed. So Holly moved him.

From DISCVR blog's Facebook page, a momma bear & a yearling cub on her back in the shallow water. I think the background has been swapped out, and I can't rule out some AI use there? God, Facebook has become the social media for AI slop : (

The title of the article, which I link below, is "How Bear 89 earned the name Backpack"

They *won't* have that kind of background or training. These critical thinking skills are getting lost in the sauce very, VERY quickly. That's the future scenario that's terrifying.

100

Joshua Dennison @palacecat.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

Corporations are still going to "train" people in things like Operational Excellence, "Business" etc., but newer generations are all leaning on AI too much to extract immediate answers under the guise of "saving time" and "efficiency."

100

Joshua Dennison @palacecat.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

This particular fellow is an Operational Excellence Manager, and did all of his training and coming-up-through-the-ranks with proper classes, work experience, etc. So deep in there somewhere, when painted into a corner, he'll be able to suss out the logic required. But these younger generations?

100

Joshua Dennison @palacecat.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

Now, that part of the story is obvious, and we've all likely dealt with that kind of scenario in a professional setting at this point. And at this exact moment in time, we're effectively in the AI infancy.

Joshua Dennison @palacecat.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

The rest of the conversation was just maddening. It starts with other group members trying to ask what inputs he used, which then turned into well, "Ok, well why do we *think* it gave us this answer..." Bro couldn't answer any of that, because there was no independent thought whatsoever.

Joshua Dennison @palacecat.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

This AI stuff is... I mean it's way past alarming, but just the work/corporate end game here is scary. We were in this training for supply chain work, and tasked with coming up w/a recovery plan for a business. This dude could not wait to pipe up and go, "Well I fed this to ChatGPT and it said..."

I hear you!! I was in this supply chain training, and this dude couldn't *wait* to pipe up and go, "Well I fed this to ChatGPT and it said..." You can't even counter-argue that...!? Like he had no independent thoughts, and couldn't explain why anything was happening. It's crazy out here man...

Another thing to remember at this point is that Willie Nelson is now nearly thirty friggin' years into his career! He's survived dozens of different popular music trends, ushered in the outlaw genre, and was still releasing music where peers of his time dropped off the map.

Nelson's first release of 1984 was "Angel Eyes," featuring one of the most painfully 80's album covers ever. This whole album just doesn't feel representative of Nelson at all, but regardless, he's out here staying in the game! open.spotify.com/album/4qdZ94...

Moving back to the direction that made "Stardust" a phenomenon, 1983's "Without a Song" featured Nelson's versions of more pop standards--albeit less well-known ones. Again, feels like Nelson was back to chasing here instead of inventing... open.spotify.com/album/3qKfcD...

"Take It To The Limit" with Waylon Jennings was released in 1983 a well. HIs third w/Jennings, this one comes across as an uninspired business move to keep the whole "outlaw" fire stoked. Lots of great homages to brilliant songwriters on this record though! open.spotify.com/album/0dXdsY...

1982 saw *three additional* records released: "Old Friends" with Roger Miller (fun if you're familiar with Miller's oeuvre), "In The Jailhouse Now" with Webb Pierce (upbeat versions of standards), and "WWII" with Waylon Jennings. All pretty forgettable, but man four records in a year is bananas.
