An autumnal #cookingwithpaddy. Lovely rump of beef cooked on my new kamado. Trompettes & ceps cooked in wine / stock & garlic made a tasty gravy. Pommes boulanger and a salad rounded it off, along with a great Aussie Shiraz

#cookingwithpaddy levantine spiced shepherd's pie. Buttered savoy cabbage. Particularly happy with the cumin and garlic butter mash. Thank you to Pinegars of cheam for excellent lamb.

Strong win. Lots of noise from green but removal of previous indy left wing candidate suggests very little move towards Polanski. Like Magic Grandad, he's toast

His commitment to England was always questioned - the old "he cares more about liverpool". I remember his doing broadcast interviews, mentioning how he always gave 100% for England but system mitigated against him - until a dew tweaks were made

There is so much wholesomeness in both of these posts. Best to all. PS clotted cream is better. (As a grandchild of irish dairy farmers)

@briw74.bsky.social @rufustsuperfly.bsky.social evening gents. For all of his scenery chewing in Jaws, I think this bookends nicely with Russia / Love showing Shaw's ability as a screen precence. Keen to hear your view

(3) and now we see the fall out. An investor that feels betrayed. A media and regulatory class that didnt ask questions when rjey should have now not sure how to respond. And a geopolitical / capital dynamic that is far more important than sport. Ah well. PhD for someone.

(2) The City / Premier League debacle is another chapter in the transition of the UK to "butler economy". Forget AD / UAE. How much did we question Abramovitch and others about source of wealth & / or alignment of interests? We (me included) wanted to keep jobs / £. PL trumpeted "global success"

Seeing the same visceral reactions from #ManCity fans as did from Chelsea fans when theyn realised what had paid for success. The feeling of entitlement and betrayal. Anger focused on PL / authorities. Interesting #PR / #media dynamic (1)

Yes. My innate romanticsim as a reaction to having a day job where theres not much time for that. Blimp still v important today

Id have A Matter of Life & Death over Blimp, but they're both masterpieces. Perhaps "went the day well" as a surprising British take on WW2?

Those of us of non english or perhaps non British heritage, however close either by proximity or history to the UK, would suggest that, "it never went away, you know"

As a comms advisor ive seen the encroachment of AI amd I'm sure that its just not as effective because it lacks the combination of intellectual engagement and individual personality. Also... AI got facts wrong by an order of magnitude. Eg average gas production & prices

@geofflemon.bsky.social am a long time listener to TFW & have always enjoyed your work across multiple channels. Very much enjoyed your unvarnished opinion on the calamity of farragiste politics and how it has bumped up against cricket in multiple ways.

Far too complex for social media. My question is whether the average chap(ess) in caherdaniel, ballyheigue and anywhere else on the island is really interested enough in the process for the inevitable hassle.

Does the MoH have to be "in the face of the enemy"? and if so, is there an equivalent to the George Cross given to, say, soldiers doing bomb disposal?

To make men - it's almost always men - feel better about themselves. At the same time, I've always really wanted an F430 which makes almost less sense, but is at least pretty.

Also, if they ever do a GBBF again, worth noting how non conservative it is. Men and women of all sizes. Some look like hobbits, some dwarves. Very few elves or men. Until the after work west london chaps com in. We all hate them.

Jack may have a point. I'm a Camra member who likes Tolkien, can cook of many things, but I do make a decent lasagne. However, I find my Rhone / Tuscan wine & travel cost outweighs almost anything else.

Don't know whether it's because I'm a Brit of Irish heritage, or because I studied 20th Century history, or because my MA dissertation was on intelligence in COIN, with specific consideration of NI, but the seemingly collective "we are ok with uniformed groups threatening violence" worries me

90 years ago, Parliament responded to the rise of Oswald Mosley's Blackshirts by passing the Public Order Act, which banned political uniforms, private militias and the threat of force for political objects. The debates make very resonant reading today. Here's the Liberal Robert Bernays. (Short 🧵)
You cannot conduct a fair match when one side is playing with a ball and the other with bombs and, if democracy is to survive, it must be conducted according to definite and recognised rule. One of them is that no political party should resort to any weapon other than reason and argument. The introduction of private armies, as I see it, strikes at the root of democracy. I know it is contended that the Blackshirts are not armed and, therefore, are not an army, but I do not think that argument can be upheld. … Uniformed men in military formation suggest, and are meant to suggest, the idea of force. It is no argument to reply that at this or that demonstration no force is intended. It is an inescapable fact that a uniform in politics symbolises force, to be used either now or in the future.

There might be a fair amount more there, in at least two geologically distinct basins - but it's not like Argentina doesn't have significant onshore oil that is a hell of a lot easier to manage. Falklands oil has always been somewhat marginal
