Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 23hA gull silhouetted by a salmon pink sunrise as I was packing to go birding. #FirstBirdOfMyDay 0140
Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Corvids again! This time at the top of the street at the entrance to the fields. Something had spooked them and there was a swirling mass of black and white feathers. Raven and magpie were additions to yesterdas mob. #FirstBirdOfMyDay 0100
Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 08/10/2026A crow on a telephone pole and a gull over the coastal path and what's that over the farmer's fields? Corvids galore! Rooks (snap!), crows and jackdaws all took to the air at the same time. #FirstBirdOfMyDay 0140

Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 07/10/2026A gull, probably herring, gliding towards the sea. As it passed the houses a gust of wind buffeted it but it expertly adjusted its wings without a flap and continued on its course. #FirstBirdOfMyDay 0140
Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Snap! We have a mist/sea fret and in the gloom I heard the "caw, caw, caw" of a crow. I looked around and there it was balanced on the electricity cable at the top of the street. #FirstBirdOfMyDay 0180
Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Starlings, lots of them on the telephone wires and wood pole at the bottom of our street. I know the collective noun for a flying group is a murmuration but I think a group like this called a chattering? It's quite apt when you hear the squeaks, whistles and other sounds. #FirstBirdOfMyDay 0150
Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 04/10/2026It seems to be surviving. The port has had issues with storm damage but it seems to help the place tick over. 110

Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 04/10/2026The FBOMD was a robin guarding the fat ball feeder from two dunnock. Lots of wings flicking, birds jumping and beaks snapping and stabbing. No harm done but while this was going on a gang of house sparrows dived in and stripped the feeder! #FirstBirdOfMyDay 0150
Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 04/10/2026As if by magic, here are the two pages. I no longer have the original comic either - mice made their bed in my whole collection from Prog 1 to 1982! But I do have the book version (sorry no alt text). 110
Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 03/10/2026My favourite 3 panels of Judge Dredd from the Judge Death Lives story - Wagner and Bolland at their best. The panels, the text and the speach lines "GAZE INTO THE FACE OF FEAR!" and "GAZE INTO THE FIST OF DREDD!" have stayed with me since I first saw them in 1981 #DayofDredd 34311
Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 03/10/2026A pair of dunnock chasing each other around the garden in this sunny and fresh morning. They were in the borders, on the fence and on the lawn flicking their tails at each other. #FirstBirdOfMyDay 0110

Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 02/10/2026I hope you pick up soon Hannah. The crow should know better! The FBOMD was a magpie on the boom of a mini-digger next door. Maggie stood there looking like an emperor surveying all he owns. It then hopped off and dig magpie things on a neighbour's lawn. #FirstBirdOfMyDay 0120
Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 01/10/2026A lovely start to October here. Two birds to choose from today. A jackdaw popping out of next door's chimney and a young dunnock whistling on our back fence. #FirstBirdOfMyDay 0160
Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 30/09/2026No birds in the garden or on the neighbours' houses but I can three silhouetted starlings on a telephone wire at the bottom of the street. #FirstBirdOfMyDay 0140
Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I'm late due to work. I saw the rear end of a robin darting over the fence as me and Sophie went in the garden first thing. #FirstBirdOfMyDay 030
Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 28/09/2026The FBOMD was a robin on our back fence. No singing and no ticking, just watching me and Sophie until it had had enough and flew next door. #FirstBirdOfMyDay 0150
Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 27/09/2026The FBOMD were a pair of magpies patrolling a neighbour's drive. At the same time I noticed a movement on the sea wall that became an eruption. 50 or so goldfinches took flight. What a sight! #FirstBirdOfMyDay 0100
Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Back home and I had nice surprise with a robin ticking at me on the garden fence while a dunnock grubs in the border. #FirstBirdOfMyDay 1140
Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 25/09/2026At my mum's today and at first light I could hear a robin singing but couldn't see it. On my way to Salford the first bird that registered was a kestrel gliding over from the direction of the RHS Bridgewater site. #FirstBirdOfMyDay 090
Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 24/09/2026I hope you feel better soon Hannah 🤞 The FBOMD were a pair of jackdaws preening themselves on next door's roof. #FirstBirdofMyDay 0120

Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 23/09/2026It was so wet this morning Sophie ran outside and did an immediate u-turn. I thought the birds had done the same but a movement under the NZ flax caught my eye. 5 house sparrows were taking shelter. #FirstBirdOfMyDay 070
Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 22/09/2026I hope you're ok Hannah. This morning I heard some "tchacking" coming from inside my neighbour's chimney. I looked for a first sighting and a calling linnet flew over while a wood pigeon sat on an overhead electricity cable. The jackdaws did eventually pop out. #FirstBirdOfMyDay 060
Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 21/09/2026It sounds like you've had a great time over here. Have a good journey home. 130
Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 21/09/2026That sounds just like the thing my mum and dad would have said. 000
Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 21/09/2026The FBOMD were a couple of jackdaws patrolling the bottom end of our street, one on the road and one on the roof of the old chapel. As I've just been typing, I've just seen a oair of house martins fly into a nest on next door's house z they're a bit late for nesting! #FirstBirdOfMyDay 1160

Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 20/09/2026Triple corvid for me and Sophie. A magpie flew off the kitchen roof, a pair of jackdaws flapped their wings on a neighbouring fence and raven flew an oval over the house cronking all the time. #FirstBirdOfMyDay 1132

Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 19/09/2026I hope you feel better soon Hannah. Snap with the jackdaw. Mine glided into a neighbour's garden with legs dangling ready for touchdown. #FirstBirdOfMyDay 0120
Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 18/09/2026There was a bit of argy bargy going on at the bottom of the street. It sounded like R2D2 arguing with itself but it turned out to be a couple of starlings having a squabble about who gets to sit on top of a telephone pole. #FirstBirdOfMyDay 0120
Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Another chilly start with sunshine to the east and wet looking clouds to the west. A pair of linnets flew towards the sunny side of the bay. #FirstBirdOfMyDay 070
Phil Cunliffe @pacunliffe.bsky.social · 16/09/2026It felt rather autumnal this morning and it was quiet again. I'd just about given up hoping to see any bird when a herring gull glided over the house. #FirstBirdOfMyDay 080
