I like traditional nerdy things, cats, dogs, and cake. Basically, if you've made a Warhammer 40k gateau and then video it being eaten by a Saint Bernard, then I'd be keen to see it.

I’ve been hearing so much anger and disappointment from frontline workers about the BBC investigation into fraudulent asylum claims. One of the most damning responses has come from one of the experts they interviewed, solicitor Ana Gonzalez. It’s really worth reading her response in full:

It's a genre unto itself: finding old Charlie Kirk quotes and showing how they justify pissing on his grave. Good. Now focus on the living people who are taking up his repulsive legacy. freethoughtblogs.com/pharyngula/2...
He was killed on camera. No one’s family deserves to have to witness that. It’s unthinkably cruel that people would then go on the internet and use their platform to say about an innocent man that “l don’t care that he’s dead.” “He’s not a hero.” “He’s a scumbag.” “He shouldn’t be celebrated.”
I’m talking about George Floyd. You thought | was talking about Charlie Kirk? No, those are actual quotes BY Charlie Kirk about George Floyd. Outrageous that anyone would say that of the dead, right?

If Farage wins the next election, it will be down to one person. His name is Keir Starmer. This thread explains why. 1. Destroying faith in democracy. The UK decisively voted out the Tories, only for Starmer to give us a Continuity Tory government, shamefully beholden to economic power. 🧵

Shameful bullish. What's done incalculable damage is a decade of pernicious falsehoods about immigration, while people who should know better refuse to counter the lies of the increasingly normalised far right. Let's tackle those lies:

Brexit promised to “take back control of our borders” But it also created huge labour shortages So, govt issued huge numbers of visas to fill the gaps. It ended reciprocal asylum arrangements with the EU So, crossings went up. Govt response? “Take back control of our borders” Such a ruinous deceit.

UPDATE: From the original poster of the letter on FB:
I just now got off the phone with Allan Schappert, the author of this letter. He’s not on social media. When I shared how his letter has travelled, he said, “I’m gobsmacked.” He wrote to share his story, and perhaps to let other veterans know they’re not alone, and he’s amazed that he touched a nerve. “The pen is mightier than the sword!” exclaimed this pilot who once wielded the nuclear sword at the controls of an American B52. Whew. He thanks you, Peter, for sharing his words. Allan and I have plans to grab a beer together this weekend.

a golden retriever sits smiling in the front passenger seat of a car. the window is rolled down just a couple of inches. blue skies with puffy clouds and some happy little trees are in the background. it’s a totally normal photo of a golden in a car, minus the fact that the tongue sticking out of her mouth is bright blue.you’re peering down into a styrofoam cup that was in a car’s cupholder. it is mostly empty but has some blue slushie way down at the bottom with a mysteriously tongue-shaped hole carved through the ice in one spot. the back of a golden retriever’s head is visible in the upper right corner of the photo. the dog may or may not be avoiding eye contact.
