Blade Runner as a title was a wholly separate script about a person running black market medical equipment for back alley doctors in a eugenicist dystopia written by William Burroughs based on a scifi novel that is out of print now. Scott loved the title so much he basically acquired it

So oddly enough the original adaptation name for electric sheep was called "Dangerous Days" as a directing/acting vehicle for the main writer. It was trying to be scifi noir in the same vein as Alphaville by Godard

I believe there are a few exceptions, then the adaptation is so transformative it has little resemblance to the original text and stands on its own as a different work (Oshii's Ghost in the Shell, Children of Men, Blade Runner, etc)

As per the translator thing: There are some versions of the Odyssey and Iliad (i think Robert Fagles Translation) that was written in the 60s and is filled with innappropriate hippy slang that distracts from actual plot of the work

Big problem with screenwriters that either A) think they're better than the source material (witcher, bebop, etc) and think they can improve it B) They have no interest in the source material and this is the only way to get something funded (more often than you think)
