Luckily she was adopted by a family on a farm & she had so much outdoor freedom & a young family who loved her for the first time in her life. Sadly all the stress of her hard life caught up with her- she passed away after a couple of years but at least she experienced much love.

I fostered a rescue Shepherd who was abused. She was the product of a puppy mill who was sent to a Texas kill shelter because she developed a massive (size of inflated balloon) mammary tumor. The rescue provided her surgery-picked by Canadian Shelter. She never left her concrete pen. Sweet as pie.

Mine is only 65 lbs. Father Moyen Standard. Mom retriever. Is your gooboy a “hugger”? I was told its common trait of doodles. Mine even at 65 lbs can knock you over trying to hug. Its the one thing I can’t train out of her. Everyone she meets must hug.

I did not plan on getting a Euro-I just happened upon a Canadian breeder who breeds in Germany & ships them to Canada. I had just lost my Shep-Cross after losing my husband not lng before that. My priest suggested I get a shepherd since I now lived alone.

I have a golden doodle & a tiny Yorkie these days. Both are far from independent. Need to be with me constantly. My Shepherd was lovable but much more independent-handled me leaving the house better but knocked me over when I returned.

Ironically I chose her because out of the entire litter she was the only one brave enough to check out the loudly barking sires. The rest cowered & ran away from the enclosure. The officer said “that’s the one you want”. She was fearless but it made her safer with strangers.

I live in Canada. I needed a predictable temperament. A police officer from Florida came up to Canada to take back an entire litter for Miami K-9. They needed the big ones. I was allowed one from that litter. Drs say my girl was too nice to be a police dog like her siblings.

My first shepherd growing up was a hybrid shepherd/brush wolf. The wolf broke into my older sister’s rural yard. It was too late. I grew up with my half wolf-then had a shepherd mix & finally a pedigree from Germany. I have to say the pedigree/schutzhund did much improve trainability & temperament.

They need a job. My girl came from working lines- she was much bigger & thicker boned than American Shepherds. And she really needed an outlet to burn off all that extra energy. So i enrolled her in agility classes. She was a natural jumper for sure.

I was not willing to just let her go. She was my life-my heart-I tried everything to keep her with me. She never complained. She was so friendly & cooperative the surgeons did not want me to give up. She chose her time. I was broken. I still cry all these years later.

With the aggressive cancer diagnosis I was given a choice-amputation or flap surgery to rebuild her leg after removing a good chunk of the soft tissue-a very long process-3 major surgeries-400 staples-we succeeded but the whole experience ultimately was too much on her heart. She passed in emergency

My girl was born in Germany to schutzhund parents. She arrived on this side of ocean at 6 weeks. Her mother stayed abroad. Super intelligent & super brave which meant because she had no fear of anything she was never aggressive. Fear provokes biting & aggression. She loved everyone she met.

Mine passed away in 2018 from cardiac arrest after a year-long cancer care. I still grieve for that girl. The First 2 years are the hardest as they have “puppy brain” in a very strong dog but after I got her walking perfectly on leash she became my total joy. I had her in agility classes as well.
