Finally, I wanted to try animating one of my oil pastel sketches. I'm really pleased with how this last one turned out! 🥰 🏰 It was great getting back into oil pastels for this project, and I'm definitely eager to revisit them in the future. Sound by RTB45 on freesound 'Belize - Jungle at Night'.

Initiation Well at Quinta Da Regaleira! This was such an awesome place 🤩 I can easily imagine strange rituals and ceremonies taking place here. It had a magical atmosphere. I definitely recommend a visit ✨🔮 I'd love to see a little, animated character running down from top to bottom in this one! 🏃‍♀️

For the next few experiments, I wanted to try moving into more of a 16:9 format so I could really imagine them as backgrounds for a mobile game or an animation. 👀 I enjoyed working on the water and reflections in this one! 🌊

Here, I wanted to play with the amount of detail to include in the Palace in the background. I was trying to imagine a game character running across the scene from the foreground to the back, and therefore didn't want the background to be overly detailed.🏰 Not my finest, but a fun experiment! 🧪😄

These first few oil pastel images that I'm sharing were the initial tests that I carried out for the project. 🧪 Though I've used oil pastel in the past, I hadn't used it like this for a while, so I wanted to loosen up and get back into it. I really love oil pastels as a medium.🎨

One of the toughest parts in making this was figuring out how to make these bugs climb properly. They can climb anything that's touching the ground, including other larva. They propagate the "groundedness" to each other with an expiration time for that groundedness. #gamedev #indiegamedev

There’s so much you can show with each illustration, from process to exploration, to small sections like this capturing a moment of the creation. This is short, but I loved the output and I’m glad I have these small moments that tend to be forgotten or overlooked :)

I really fell in love with the brush pen whilst working on our game Lost & Bound. Prior to 2023 I’d never tried one and then picked one up on our Japan trip in a stationary store. It took my a while to get used to, but I love the different kinds of marks you can make. 🖌️
