Filled out a survey for UK authors and illustrators, about AI Licensing and Remuneration. My personal take on this was that there's no combination of money or terms, that would make me want to license my work to train Gen AI. At the end of the survey I wrote this mqedu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_...

Generative AI is based on plagiarism. It is trained by exploiting workers in the Global South. It is environmentally destructive. It replicates stereotypes, bigotry and other oppressive attitudes. It is highly inaccurate. It is psychologically damaging for those who use it, via encouraging dependency, the development of AI psychosis, or by leading to the erosion of existing skills. It is a way of overturning creative labour markets to cynically enrich tech bros. There is not ethical use of it. No amount of financial compensation makes it worth engaging with.

OLDER WORK "The River" (2010) It was my first large-scale 3D scene and the first one to gain some recognition online. Looking back on it now, some of the execution could be better but it holds a special place for me so I'll include it here. Render created with 3ds max. #oldart #3d #digitalart

I will be pretty busy with work until early December and then Metroid Prime 4 is coming out right after that so probably no more personal work for me this year. Though 6 pieces in a year is better than 0 pieces in 10 years at least.

灯りの温もり・ a warming light 3D + painting #digitalart #3D #背景　＃夜景＃イラスト

A night scene of a town made of traditional Japanese wooden buildings which feel as tall as skyscrapers. They are lit by orange lantern light. There are two rows of buildings connected by a series of wooden stairways and bridges. In the center is a silhouette of a girl in a kimono standing alone on one of the walkways as if lost in thought. She is staring into the background where we see tall buildings enveloped by an orange haze of lantern light which feels almost magically intense and nearly overwhelming in its brightness.

Making an effort is what separates human artists from generative AI, 100%. We put in years of practice into our craft because we care to put out what we want to see into the world. Spending a few minutes generating a shallow facsimile built on other artists' efforts and visions is not art.

NEW WORK Lumia Junction My 2nd work of 2025. Based on Chinese architecture. 3D rendering produced with 3ds max and V-Ray. #3dart #digitalart #cityscape #steampunk #china #night

A 3D rendering of a fantastical nighttime cityscape. The central building is a large tower in traditional Chinese style with metal pipes and chimneys and neon signs. There are elevated railways with trains passing through the building. At the street level there are street vendors with a crowd of people walking by.
