@albomp.bsky.social it wasn't a "misaligned model". It was reckless and unaccountable leaders of a company. The language they use is chosen deliberately to wash their hands of responsibility. The only way to deal with antisocial entities is through cold hard consequences. #auspol 👇👇👇

@albomp.bsky.social - further evidence that Big Tech are not acting in good faith, and our Australian creatives are their victims. It's time for consequences, not compromises. Stealing from one person is a crime. Yet stealing from *every* Australian is...?

I'm just going to keep yelling this louder and louder until it clicks: weird overpaid AI nerds hand-wringing about human extinction are trying to distract you from the extremely deadly and serious harms they are causing yesterday, today and tomorrow www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
Headline: "US Data Centers Set to Burn More Natural Gas Than Most Nations" above a photo of natural gas compressor towers, power lines and a crane at an industrial site, illustrating rising gas use tied to data centers.News excerpt reporting that U.S. data centers’ natural gas use is expected to grow by 15 billion cubic feet per day by 2035—amounting to more gas than every country except China, Russia, Iran and the U.S., citing the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

Opt-in algorithms are a good first step. But it needs to go further. We must have simple, full transparency around how the opt-in algorithms work They must be free from manipulation for corpoate self-interest. And we need choice around how they operate. #auspol @albomp.bsky.social

Netanyahu won't let something as inconvenient as a peace process get in the way of his bloodthirsty imperial ambition. It would be a bitter irony if Trump's hubris is the thing that finally brings about consequences.
Al Jazeera:
'Speaking to his cabinet Sunday, Netanyahu vowed that “as long as I am prime minister, no Palestinian state will arise” and emphasised that Israel would not abide by the US-backed plan.'

Great thread here. False anthropomorphism of Generative AI leads us to misapply the technology. We impute cognition to it, and so use it in the wrong way for the wrong tasks.

this is a great argument that maybe we have the risks backwards
I believe we should not consider
AI safe. A critical event that may result in the extinction of Homo sapiens is possible, but the danger is not in open models, or China making faster progress than the US. The danger is that a few CEOs (everywhere in the world) without the required background and
legitimacy are in the position of making hard choices for humanity at large. They were not selected to do so; it was just the randomness of events that created this setup. They can't speak for everybody, given the stakes, just because they have GPUs and money. This is the first thing that should be fixed.

Part of this Australian superannuation fiasco involves a severe misdiagnosis of the issues facing musicians. The problem is not a lack of super. It's a *lack of any income at all*. Reclassifying contractors as employees cuts the legs out of some of the few paid opportunities going around.
