There's no greater happiness than the happiness of a young dog that's just realised we're about to go for a walk in the woods. Barking, running back and forth, jumping, and that's before we've even left the house. We were out before sunrise, which meant we got to experience a quiet, beautiful forest

I'm in a retro mood today. We kicked off the weekend with a couple of hours in a wet forest, which was very nice though not enough, but I'm not feeling 100% so I will probably spend the rest of the weekend in a horizontal position, reading and chilling. I just wish I'd taught him how to cook

Important elections in Sweden today. I tried to control my anxiety over this by taking Lumi on a 3-hour hike and then baking four (4) apple pies. Lumi was an excellent boy, and we had so much fun exploring new trails nearby and getting muddy. Now plz fingers crossed everyone that the good guys win

Sometimes he doesn't follow the exact scent trail I've laid out for him but he almost always finds the meatball in the end. I don't know how he does it, because sometimes he can't find something that's right in front of his face. I think he'd enjoy proper scent work of some sort.

The melancholy of autumn is hitting already. Good thing I have this guy to cheer me up with his shenanigans. Hunting season has started in Northern Sweden. We have to choose carefully where to go for our long hikes so we aren't mistaken for moose. The resemblance is uncanny after all

Lumi shows us the way to a healthier, happier life. Pick a quiet spot in the forest, lie down and don't move until you run out of blueberries. Then move, to find a new quiet spot with blueberries. Repeat.

Look at this happy boy. Wanna know why he's happy? Because we spent 2,5 hrs wandering around my favourite local "wilderness", a place popular with runners and skiers on the edge of town. Lumi had a great time off-leash in the forest today. First he disappeared 10 seconds after I released him, then he jumped in a pond, and then he rolled around in something very stinky. Dry schampoo's no match for the stink and my back hurts too much to attempt to give him a bath 😩 but hey he had fun

Today was a good day, first we got barked at by two loose dogs in the woods at 6.30 in the morning, then aunt S came to visit AND she dropped a bit of lemon cake without noticing (Lumi noticed 🍽️), and THEN all this excitement had to go somewhere and it went into barking for 2 hours. Good stuff

Hemavan is a place I've visited many times the last 30 years to hike and to run, although not since the pandemic. I have lots of great memories and I'd been dying to go back there, not least because I was curious to see how Lumi would react to being in his natural habitat. It is close to the Norwegian border.

We took a long walk to a new (for Lumi) place down by the river early this morning and it was so exciting that he got the zoomies while holding a stick in his mouth. What followed was a reenactment of Dracula, only vampires wouldn't have let so much good blood go to waste 🤦🏻‍♀️

I've had to work from the office the last 1,5 weeks and the commute twice a day to walk Lumi has been killing me, so I tried bringing him with me last Friday. He was very excited about meeting everyone, less excited that people had to work instead of giving him scritches. Very lazy employee btw

I had to go to the office every day this week (I usually wfh) and Lumi made sure I knew he wasn't pleased by barking his head off upon my return. I wasn't pleased either. So now he gets all my attention. Mom has to mow the lawn but that's Tomorrow Mom's problem, possibly even Saturday Mom's problem

A rare walk in the woods with dad. Lumi did such a great job keeping an eye on us both. He also did an amazing job hiding the tennis ball I threw for him somewhere he promptly forgot all about. "Where is the ball?" I implored. Crickets. But he did find a tick. So on the whole we broke even I guess

Did you know Finnish lapphunds consist of 99% fur and 1% mayhem? That's why, when they wade into a lake, there is a lot of fur leakage and all that remains is mayhem. Ridiculously spindly mayhem, zooming around in the sand.

Windy, rainy weather+ having to wear a raincoat= Lumi's legs suddenly lose the ability to move. I think that if he would just start walking again we'd get home sooner, get him dry and out of the dreadful thing but I guess standing completely still, freezing and squinting against the wind, works too.

The local dog rescue had a stand at the flea market yesterday and I HAD to buy Lumi this scarf. It says "Nice" on the flip side. Maybe one day I'll have reason to flip it! 🤞 (The scarf looks like it's choking him because I didn't pull his fur through it properly. It's not actually that tiny)

You'll never guess why from the photos, but Lumi had to have an unscheduled bath after this walk. It was unpleasant for both of us.

Have you ever wondered what a dog who thinks I'm about to force him into the horrible, terrible, dog-eating car to go and spend the night away with me at a beautiful place with lots of interesting scents and wild animals to photograph looks like? Like this.

Mom tried to be smart and pack the overnight bag a day in advance, so Lumi wouldn't be so stressed on the day of the trip. He knows bag equals car trip. Instead, he's now going to be stressed both today and tomorrow. Really, this would all be so much easier if he liked the car. We're making progress but it's very slow.

We definitely shouldn't. We're in Austria, did expect about 15 to 20°C. Received a butt load of snow in a storm last night, instead.

💞 Oh such a perfect day, I'm glad I spent it with you 💞 9 km in my favourite nature reserve, with a very, VERY good Lumi. He had so much fun, and so did I. Everything is better with him, every experience, every adventure, every second of every day ❤️

About half-way we took a little detour to a beach and Lumi got the zoomies. Sand is so much fun! Here, he's trying to cross a very dangerous river, half a meter across and at least 2 centimeters deep. He was very brave! Behind him, a grey summerhouse in the distance.

We took a snack break on some cliffs that overlooked the sea. Mom was drinking coffee and Lumi was chewing on his bone, when a white-tailed eagle appeared and circled over our heads. He was probably tempted by this tasty morsel of a dog, but Lumi saw some swans in the sea that were screaming their heads off, probably because of the eagle, and Lumi started barking back. The eagle flew over our heads a few times but then decided Lumi would put up too much of a fight and moved on.
