A spiral galaxy viewed at an angle, with a bright central bulge and winding spiral arms. The arms form a ring around the galaxy, without appearing to reach its centre. Prominent red-brown dust lanes weave through the arms, which are also dotted with bright blue and reddish regions of star formation. Webb reveals one of its largest images to date! 😲 This starry view shows the nearby star-forming region IC 348. Here, astronomers searched for brown dwarfs, objects which are less massive than the smallest stars. Read more 👉 www.esa.int/Science_Expl... 🔭🧪
A star-forming region. It is blanketed in thick clouds of gas and dust, millions of kilometres across, that form swirling patterns. Bright stars are scattered throughout the clouds, with the densest cluster situated in the centre of the scene. Each is crowned with six long points created by the optics of the telescope’s mirrors. In the upper right, a couple of hidden stars blast out long, glowing jets of material. Credit: ESA/Webb, NASA, CSA, K. Luhman, C. Alves De Oliveira, M. Zamani (ESA/Webb)

The Trifid Nebula is a favourite of astronomers, and this image shows just why. So named for the dust bands that trisect its glowing heart, the nebula is a rare combination of three nebula types, revealing the fury of freshly formed stars. More: www.eso.org/public/news/eso0930 🔭 📷 ESO

A close-in view of the centre of galaxy M82. Bright, bluish light radiating from the centre is due to stars actively forming there.

Yo no he mencionado tendencias políticas.

Yonocantonienamoro @otnaconoy.bsky.social · 21/08/2025

In this second photo, the sun was obscured by smoke, but the clouds below were receiving sunlight and shining brightly. The sky truly looked strange, and, knowing what's happening around this area (massive fires), the feeling was very unpleasant, distressing.

The skies above Paranal are at risk from a proposed industrial megaproject.  This would be located in the vicinity of ESO's Observatory. If constructed, it would irreparably impact astronomical observations. Read more: www.eso.org/public/news/eso2501 🔭  📷 ESO/P. Horálek

World's darkest and clearest skies at risk from industrial megaproject
On December 24th, AES Andes, a subsidiary of the US power company AES Corporation, submitted a project for a massive industrial complex for environmental impact assessment. This complex threatens the pristine skies above ESO’s Paranal Observatory in Chile’s Atacama Desert, the darkest and clearest of any astronomical observatory in the world [1]. The industrial megaproject is planned to be located just 5 to 11 kilometres from telescopes at Paranal, which would cause irreparable damage to astronomical observations, in particular due to light pollution emitted throughout the project’s operational life. Relocating the complex would save one of Earth's last truly pristine dark skies.
