@thewaroncars.bsky.social have y’all watched the movie practical magic? There’s a scene where a guy thinks he’s gonna die from a pack of bicyclists but then a delivery truck ends up killing him. The rest of the movie is insane. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are sisters and witches

@maris.bsky.social love your book recs! I’m getting married in September. Do you have any books that you’d recommend to read during the week of a wedding? Do you remember what you were reading around the time of yours? Is that a thing people remember? Haha

must’ve been terrible to date AOC as a regular man because one minute you’re dating a bartender who’s a bit out of your league and the next there are tabloid stories like “you’re not gonna believe how ugly this guy is”

I’ve been constantly thinking about this quote
There’s a famous passage in the prison journals of the Italian Marxist philosopher Antonio Gramsci. He wrote, around 1930, “The old world is dying. The new one is slow in appearing. In this light and shadow, monsters arise”

Civilizations was awesome. Really cool story about an alternative history. The different forms it was told in was super interesting

I flew through Celestial Lights. Another book about space travel, which I normally don’t give a shit about but this really caught my attention. The whole debate about pursuing scientific discovery was really interesting to me. Definitely recommend
Celestial Lights by Cecile Pin. Cover art is an astronaut laying on a blue planet in space

Night Night Fawn by Jordy Rosenberg was great. A weird one, but entertaining. Also very funny at some points. There were definitely some deeper points to the store that I wasn’t picking up, but I had a nice time

Half His Age by Jennette Mccurdy was a disappointment. I really enjoyed her memoir and had high hopes for this. This was just ok. Nothing all that interesting happens in it.

Now reading Wuthering Heights. I feel like I don’t understand half the words in this but my brain is enjoying as my eyes pass over the pages. Not entirely sure what is going on most of the time, but I feel cozy.

Finished the veteran book. Pretty solid. Lots of interesting information, a little boring at times. Every chapter has a portion about how black veterans were constantly getting fucked over by the US government. The US needs to give every black person 20 million dollars

US soldiers landing in New York after years spent fighting in Europe. Reuniting with family, a beautiful moment.
Paragraph of book: “The lucky ones were greeted by family as they disembarked. “I pulled into New York harbor and my mother and father met the ship,” Joseph Argenzio of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, recalled in his oral history. “I had sunglasses on and if your parents were there to meet you they let you off the ship first ahead of the bulk of them. I came down the gangway and my mother is yelling ‘He’s blind, he’s blind. I knew it.’ I said ‘Mom, I’m not blind. I just have a pair of cheap glasses on’”
