I thought this was a very interesting slide from the Energy Institute's event yesterday to launch the latest Statistical Review of World Energy. It shows the amount of energy that's wasted, mostly from burning fossil fuels - which isn't just lethally polluting, it's really bloody inefficient.
Graphic showing energy flows split by services and waste.

Opportunities for significant efficiency of the energy system through renewables and electrification

Congratulations to @cipr.co.uk on hitting the milestone of 1,000 Chartered PR Practitioners. I took that step two years ago, to the month, and definitely recommend it. As well as being an important step in your own continuing development, it's a hallmark of professionalism and expertise.

Not much to be upbeat about here, but worth noting that emissions aren't increasing as rapidly as they have been in recent decades. There's still a lot of work to get that curve heading downwards, before the rising temperature curve might even start to flatten.

Most people in the UK support climate action, not that you'd know that from most news channels or political rhetoric. That's part of the reason why businesses need to speak up about why doing the right thing on climate is easier and more economically rewarding than it’s often portrayed.

NESO's “holistic transition” scenario would have the lowest cost over the next 25 years, saving £36bn a year. In simple terms, investing to cut emissions is a lot cheaper than not doing so. That's not a surprising conclusion, but it's not as commonly known as it should be.
